I am a big Disney fan . . . but this is the single most dangerous result of his influence. Sorry Dew . . . but Cookie has behaviors predicated on her perceived status in the pack. These are routinely interpreted by us humans with anthropopathic characteristics. This is usually harmless and makes life more enjoyable. But let me emphasize . . . Cookie understands NOTHING . . . as we humans tend to mean it.

Adapting to the new member of the pack should be without incident as long as she does NOT believe she has Alpha status (which is not easy to determine if she receives lots of attention) . . . BUT there should be NO unsupervised access (or ability to get to the baby alone) for at least a year. Do not ignore this advice unless you are as knowledgeable as the Dog Whisperer. Sorry for the sermon . . . but there have been some very tragic incidents predicated on the general ignorance about animal behavior.

While June sees and understands Mystic's advice and the rationale behind it, June just needs to add the fact that Cookie is a Shih Tzu. June's next door neighbors had a baby, and they own three Shih Tzu's all of whom have the "run of the house." June has the feeling that given the temperment of Shih Tzus that Cookie will adapt, although June wouldn't want to see Cookie trying to play with a newborn!

Thank you, Mystic, for your concern! But yes - Cookie is a little Shih tzu and actually loves little kids. She doesn't have a mean bone in her little body - but I still won't be leaving her alone with the baby! Plus - due to Cookie's small stature, I don't think she could reach the baby unless I left it on the floor! And I'm aware that she doesn't understand what I'm saying - but I still enjoy our conversations nonetheless!

Ah . . . "Just June" . . . I have not been following the discussion and did not base my remarks on the type of dog Cookie is. It was a generic caveat because of the Disney-inspired irrational ignorance and misunderstanding so many people have about their pets. I am not being overly alarmist . . . perhaps just a little more sensitive to the issue because of personal knowledge of young children (not mine) who have had their faces or bodies scarred permanently from friendly Fido . . . not to mention death or the psychological trauma it can inflict . . . often producing irrational phobias. It is not really a trivial matter. Dew's unfortunate choice of words (misrepresenting her actual understanding) just triggered a knee jerk response in me. Thanks for the clarification.

I'm sooooooo happy for the two (three) of you!!
That is wonderful news.
Take extra good care of yourself.

Lucky kid...loving & capable parents...and no listening to off key stuff at bedtime. Professionally sung lullabies...Woo Hoo!...that's what I'm talkin' about!!

I'm thinking of making another CD - this one of lullabies for the baby (the last one was for my mom). I'm trying to think of what songs I want to put on it. The only one I know for sure is Edelweiss from The Sound of Music because that's the song that my mom always sang to me when I was a baby.

Thank you for the kind words!

It's eerie for you to always come up with things that I hold close to my heart as well Dewdrop...

Sound of Music is one of the movies my grandkids grew up with...and we used to sing Edelweiss together often that even my youngest grandson (6 years old) knows by heart...fond memories since they're growing up so fast...I miss them already.
Word of wisdom, enjoy your child while you can and fill their memories of home with love...because before you know it...they're gone to form their own world apart from ours...

Hey Dewdrop93! Congratulations! I'm excited for you and the family.
Years ago a co-worker brought in some music for she and I to listen to during the shift...womb music (mother's heart tones). It was not appropriate at that time but maybe you may find a more appropriate usage for it.

Names?

Hope the weather in your neck of the woods continue to improve...this means that my shuttling loved ones around is almost over...they'll be going home soon...

One last request before they go...island hopping dragging coolers and virtual kitchen stuff to no end... Do I love to do this for my kin? absolutely...getting exhausted? ummm...yes!
