Wow, I found 3 old books and they were all professionally bound in the 1700s.

One is a bible from the 1700s that has somebody's complete family history and family tree. Astonishing, a family has lost this thing and on top of that, it is worth thousands of dollars.

If you want to find out more about that, CD has an excellent Genealogy forum. If you're interested in returning the book to the family (or learning more about them) there are some outstanding genealogists who could assist you in tracking down the descendants of the people named in the family tree.

He passed today. The work of dying is done, for him.

Giving birth can be quite painful, Pleroo. It certainly is for those of us left behind and unable to witness the actual birth. Please ignore if this offends you in any way. I would never want to minimize your pain by inserting my beliefs inappropriately, Pleroo.

No, that's funny. I never saw a person die until my dad. The whole family had gathered around him for the days preceding his death. At the end, though, it was just a few of us. When it was over, I said to those with me: I feel like we were doulas, coaching him through his labor. It literally felt like a birth. So, when I hear bits and pieces about my brother's process over the last few days, I understand it in that framework. It has been a labor of love, for everyone there, I'm sure.

Thank you guys. Can't quite figure out what to do with myself right now. Not ready to try to process it, but I think I should probably just sit with it quietly for a while, and stop all the chatter I've been doing.

It's nice knowing you're out there, though.
