I know there is a verse that says that "the soul that sinneth, it shall die." I believe this to be in reference to the soul of man, which sins. Eve gave in to the serpent, Adam did not.

Also, the spirit of man returns to God. It may be that "Israel" is a reference word for the "spirit" of man.

Just a reflection.

I have wondered about these verses in relation to a seed being planted in every man -- the spirit of man -- the light (spirit) which is planted in the darkness (flesh)

Quote:
Joh 1:9 It was the true light - which is enlightening every man - coming into the world.
I do not believe that the spirit of man is something totally formed, to me it seems that it takes belief and faith(fulness) and regeneration to become the "children of God" and born of the Spirit -- to me it seems the breath of God in us is the seed only and needs watering and feeding........

Quote:
Joh 6:35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.

Joh 6:55 For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.
Joh 6:56 He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.
Joh 6:57 As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me.

John 3:6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.

8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth; so SO IS EVERYONE THAT IS BORN IN OF THE SPIRIT...

It is the "seed" of our Heavenly Father that makes us "Born of the Spirit" as spiritual embryos . . . just as the seed of our earthly fathers made us "Born of the Flesh" as physical embryos. The phrase that refers to "born of God" has the connotation of "begotten"while still within the Flesh . . . whereas the "rebirth as Spirit" refers to being "born again" upon our physical death.

This is one understanding of the spirit in man, if it is true that man is made of flesh, soul and spirit. Adam (male) as spirit (masculine), Eve (female) as soul (feminine) and flesh (serpent?).
Gerrard Winstanley talks much about the flesh being the actual devil. And the Spirit of Christ within us that must "arise," in God's time will be done to all men.

In the light of these three in one person, flesh, soul and spirit, we see that the soul within the unregenerate man tends to obey the flesh. The spirit in that person is subdued, as was Jacob and Moses.
Then, at the appointed time, as God sees fit, He leads the person into freedom through the rising up of the spirit, thereby subjecting the soul to itself, and not to the flesh anymore. This is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

In my own experience, this seems to ring true.

Also, with regard to the "eternal torment" verses which are so frequently declared here, we can see better how God will torment only that part of man which is fallen, the flesh. Whether the soul will also be tormented, I cannot say. But it seems that the "saving of the soul" is this, when the spirit of the person is "revived" to take the lead in the person, thereby subjugating the soul.

Any thoughts?

Blessings,
brian

I believe that as well. Many die as spiritual cripples who were never allowed to grow while in this world.

This guy ( http://hospedoweb.com/overcomers/2doadan.htm (broken link) ) states that all men have the dead man in them (which died when Christ died) and the new man (which was put there when Christ rose). His english isn't perfect, but you can understand it nonetheless. (I like it especially around half way down the page.)
Good reading, imo.

Blessings,
brian
