Perhaps it shows a shift in attitudes. I can still remember being told in Sunday school that Jesus turned the water into GRAPE JUICE, not wine, at the wedding. The pastors of my childhood and adolescence also told us that Jesus would not have ever drank wine; it was GRAPE JUICE.

Well they ain't baptists. Of course they drink, a lot, they also lie about it.

There are three truths in life:
Jewish people do not recognize Jesus as the Messiah.
Protestants do not recognize the Pope as the leader of the Christian faith.
Baptists do not recognize each other in the liquor store.

I always found it amusing when certain pastors referred to the wine in the Bible as "grape juice." The point is, the stuff was obviously strong enough to get drunk off of.

Funny thing how literalists reject the literal when it conflicts with their doctrine.

John 2:7-10 (NIV) Jesus said to the servants, "Fill the jars with water"; so they filled them to the brim.

8Then he told them, "Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet." They did so, 9and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside 10and said, "Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now."

John 2:7-10 (KJV-aka the version that Paul used ) 7Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim. 8And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bare it.
9When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew the governor of the feast called the bridegroom, 10And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now.

WOW! I grew up in a non-denominational church and they told us that it was wine.

I love this! I have to tell this to my Baptist family members, who eagerly accept a glass of wine while dining with me.

My old Lutheran church used to host an adults only Octoberfest fellowship event with a beer keg. We had so much fun at those!

I agree.
John1960 is our unofficial "news" guy, and posts stuff that he does not personally necessarily agree with, but is news pertaining to Christianity. He is a reporter, that's all, and that's fine, IMO.

This was the Southern Baptist churches I attended in the 70s as I was growing up. For the most part now, pastors refer to it as wine. I'm sure some of the older pastors still insist that it was grape juice.

There are links you can find on Google from people who still believe that and even come up with all kinds of convoluted theories on how people in biblical times kept grape juice from spoiling in a desert environment.
