But each verse is like a pearl all its own. Each individual verse is worthy of study on its own. Each word even. Each verse follows or precedes another pearl and together they form the necklace, but individually they are still beautiful and relevant.

You find Biblical authors quoting verses all over the Bible, especially in the New Testiment, not whole chapters, but verses. There is often a verse which encapsulates the meaning of a larger passage. Or a verse serves as a reminder for those who are familiar with the larger passage it comes from.

Why this resistance to verses?

So it is ok as long as what you are quoting is cohesive with what you are trying to state? Which is what a lot of people on this board are trying to do. If what they are quoting is NOT cohesive with what they are trying to state, the problem is NOT that the verses are numbered!
