Well, the puritans tried to fix all that in Salem but only managed to kill 20 or so pagans. Maybe that probably led to a curse from God since they didn't kill all of them?

Really people - the country was founded primarily by people raised in the Christian tradition. We have no idea who, if any, were born again Spirit filled AKA "genuine" believers as only God knows that. There were also deists and other belief systems going on because they were FREE to do that (very important point).

Human governments which claim to represent God historically have ALWAYS turned out to be disasters! That's why the founding fathers wisely left any reference to Jesus or Christianity OUT of the Constitution or the Declaration of Independence. There are references to our "Creator" since most (or all?) of them believed in a Creator. Yet there was no requirement to believe in a Creator.

God is not cursing America for not enforcing Christian doctrine or for allowing pagans in. What an absolutely absurd and ridiculous notion. The very BEST way for people to flourish spiritually and in every other way is within a culture of freedom. There is absolutely no way to control people's thoughts or beliefs about God and if anyone thinks otherwise they are in for a rude awakening.

Precisely! [Some] Christians can be an interesting bunch. They love to hear that this one and that one is a Christian or that "this nation was founded on Christian principles." Once the excitement is over, these are the SAME Christians who will condemn the same "this one and that one" Christian for NOT being a True Christian like they are. If City Data is any indication, many of the Christians here would not even consider Christians from the 1700s as their idea of what a true Christian should be.

Was God impeached? Did I miss that lesson in history class?
