A novena is a devotional prayer said for 9 consecutive days, either publically (which is why some people publish them in newspapers) or privately. People do them for different reasons but the practice comes from when Jesus told his followers to pray continuously after his ascension into heaven. They prayed for nine days.

Question Christianity or religion post?

This post seems to be displaced. But while we're on the subject. In the scriptures it says, when you pray to pray like this:

Our Father who art in heaven
Hallowed be thy name
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done
On earth as it is in heaven
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us
Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil
For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory
Both now and forever amen.

The subject was novenas I thought.

I felt this post was displaced because praying to the saints and burying statues is a religious thing.

This thread brings a smile to my face because I don't know a single person here in NC that would consider burying a statue to sell their house. But in NJ, where Joeandhisfamily lives, it is very, very common. And they probably are not thinking of it as a "Catholic" question, or "religious" question. Sorry if I've stepped over the line and spoken for you, Joe!

They are a Catholic thing, and Catholics are Christians...so they belong in the Christianity forum...remember it's for Christians.

Thanks for explaining, ruralgalnebraska & irishmom. I was confused why the novena to st joseph wouldn't be considered christian, but i suppose protestants don't think of catholics as christian.

Going to a certain church does not make someone a Christian.

No faith does and Catholics have that. So what is your point?
