Jonathan Edwards, a minister of the 1700's gave a famous sermon entitled: "Sinners in the hands of an angry God." Is this title proper? No. God is at peace with all mankind and tells Christians to entreat humanity to be at peace with Him (see 2 Corinthians 5:14-20).

Is God angry? No. "in accord with the evangel of the glory of the happy God, with which I was entrusted" (1 Timothy 1:11).

And Jesus is happy too: "which, to its own eras, the happy and only Potentate will be showing: He is King of kings a...nd Lord of lords" ( 1 Timothy 6:15).

Is that not wonderful? Are you happy too? Are you at peace with God? He is at peace with you! :-)

But what about the end times stuff?

Can God still be happy when Jesus comes back with a vengeance? Just saying....

Good question Illene! Right now we are ambassadors and God is having us as ambassadors to entreat mankind to be at peace with Him because He is at peace with them on His side (see 2 Corinthians 5:18-21).

Now then, what happens when hostilities break out? The first ones to be withdraw are the ambassadors. So before hostilities break out on the world's stage, God will first withdraw us believers. Then, not long afterward, (approx. 7 years?) The bowls of Revelation will begin to be poured out upon this world. Once His Christ is set in power then peace will be re-instituted. Once the ages have ended there will be a perfect peace throughout the universe on both sides.

Too bad he doesn't step in and do something about all the bad; must be out having coffee. I am sure he is at peace but that doesn't end his anger-life is a little more complicated than happy thoughts and wishes only.

That's fine and dandy, but your forgetting God has limits. And you should not test him. Not only has humanity went OVER those limits since Jesus died on the cross, but we have also tested him MANY times over. I'm VERY surprised that this generation has even lasted this long. All the greatest nations and empires in history have fallen because of their sins. This whole world today is next. God is in fact ANGRY with this generation and we will get our just deserts. Only the righteous will he protect and be able to escape his wrath.

allenk893, Why are you surprised this generation has lasted this long? God's is at peace with the world and is not reckoning their offenses to them and is placing in us this word of peace to go to mankind and tell them to be at peace with God. This peace is all based upon what Christ has accomplished upon the cross. Read 2 Corinthians 5:14-20 again.

You say all the greatest nations and empires in history have fallen because of their sins. You must be talking about all nations and empire prior to Christ dying. Also, remember, we are talking about OFFENSES. "God is not reckoning their OFFENSES to them." Offenses are those things which wound God's heart.

He doesn't drink coffee. God is not angry with mankind. He is at peace with mankind. What part of "peace" do you not understand?

I'm not sure what you're getting at Eusebius. Are you saying that God is simply following the plan that He set out for us in the Bible and that's it? He's not angry, just following the plan?

The coffee statement was sarcasm. Mine or your understanding does not make it so; neither do our wishes, what is is; "judgement begins with the house of god" as it says and I can't remember where it said that stopped; there is peace but also wrath. This dualism is very common, everywhere, in the world, and it is also an anthropomorphism that is given us to "see" god.

With unrepentant sinners? You betcha! They face a fate of their own choosing, which is death. NOT Life, though Jesus Christ our Lord.

Happy? That is like saying the Beatitudes were saying those people who mourn, are suffering, are poor in spirit, are persecuted, etc,,,are happy? No, they are blessed,,,for theirs IS promised good things to come.

Again, where is this happy word coming from? He is blessed. You are having a serious word problem, with that translation. Read verse 16,,,which is what we are talking about. He ALONE posseses immortality, AND dwells in UN approachable Light,,which we know IS the Father.

Yes, I am at peace with God, and my King and Lord Jesus Christ.
