Makes me think that we are misinterpreting the scriptures somehow regarding fallen angels.

There's a difference between being "perfect" and being "divine." Adam and Eve were perfect before their fall. This perfection can be restored in our souls, but it's a tough row to hoe because of earthly temptations that are always at our beck and call.
Being "divine," which is what angels are... means that they have the substance of God in their souls completely... this is His Essence, or divinity... and once this is received and it flourishes and we receive it in abundance to a sufficient degree, then we become "at-one" with God and our sins are removed never to return again. The beauty of receiving this Love is that we don't even have to think about what we need to do to change our ways... it happens little by little and we're not even aware of it until we think back and say, well, I remember how I used to be and I'm not that way any more... thank you, God for your Love and the privilege of receiving it!
