Yes, you do not get to control when the spirit leaves the body and where it goes, any more than you can contol where the wind blows.

What a great argument. You are so smart.

Jas 2:26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

A body without a spirit is dead. Why would God say something if someone can't lose their spirit? And if the spirit is gone how can someone "suffer" torment if they are dead? It is easy to see the doctrine that the wicked have immortality is flawed.

Yes, the body dies. You didn't know?

Yeah but what is absurd is that if it has immortality that it couldn't be wounded. People actually believing we have immortality is proven false everyday in hospitals everywhere when people come in with burns, bruises, cuts, scrapes, breaks, etc... If we have immortality then those things couldn't happen to us. And if we had immortality then a fire couldn't consume you.

You have to be mortal to be consumed by fire.

Post #97 of the following thread. The Orthodox View of Hell is correct in that Hell is a place of Conscious Everlasting Torment

The Bible says the wicked shall be consumed. (of course this is allegorical).

Psa 37:20 But the wicked shall perish, and the enemies of the LORD shall be as the fat of lambs: they shall consume; into smoke shall they consume away.

It is pretty simply. If man always has immortality then WHY? - would God have to give it to anyone?:

Rom 2:6 Who will render to every man according to his deeds:
Rom 2:7 To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life:

This notion of man having immortality by default or that the wicked have immortality or the wicked to be given immortality is completely refuted by God's Word.
