Jesus Freak
Ok, this thread came to me while looking at the pics on the other thread. I'm sure you know which pic made me think of it....
Are you a Jesus Freak? There was a time "Jesus Freaks" made me very nervous. I can remember one time in particular when I was out to dinner with my husband and about 52 weeks pregnant. Needless to say, at 12 weeks past due (joking, it only felt that way) I was a little uncomfortable and I guess that you could read that in my body language. There were some ladies dining together a table over and one kept taking notice of me. Not a big deal. I'm sure that she was worried that at any moment she would be swimming in my amniotic fluids. Anyway, she kept watching me and when my husband excused himself to use the restroom she came to my table and asked if I was OK and asked if she could pray for me. Now, I know that I may have read it all wrong, but I felt like she was suggesting that my discomfort had something to do with my husband and that I was in some sort of trouble and that she was there to help me. It just all felt weird. I did let her pray for me and she went back to her table before my hubby got back. I told him about the incedent and I remember clearly when I was sharing the story with a good friend, I referred to the woman as a Jesus Freak.
Well, later in my conversion into Catholicism and my walk with Christ, I remember something coming alive in me and I just couldn't stop talking about Jesus and what he did/does for us. I wanted everyone to taste what I had and I would talk about it endlessly. I remember thinking...I have become a Jesus Freak, and I like it.
Now, I think that there is still an extreme. As "pictured" in the other thread!!!! And I wondered, are you a Jesus Freak? Are there limits to what we should take into public? And maybe you can share a story or two.
Thanks guys. Love ya...

Not a freaky bone in my body.
I am sincerely glad you're happy.
You take Jesus. I'll take G-d.

I'm a Jesus freak...sort of
I will admit there was a time when overly zealous religious folks made me shall we say roll my eyes a bit . I felt bad about doing that after the encounter, but I thought they had gone a bit too far. You have to understand, in real life I'm a pretty reserved person. I don't get crazy at concerts or sporting events. People I would encounter proclaiming their beliefs at the top of their lungs on the street corner or just being so darned up-front about it anywhere (especially outside of church) made me wince. That has changed somewhat at this point in my life.
When I re-dedicated my life to Jesus about 14 yrs ago, it hit me like a flash -- there are people out there who don't know what I know. There are people who don't know Jesus. Now, I will say I don't stand on a soapbox on the corner (CD forum meets that need ) but I am more up-front about what I believe and will bring it up when I feel led to do so. I am more up-front about acknowledging what Jesus has done for me when people ask me how things are going regarding an occurrence in my life. I am also very vocal when it comes to telling people their behavior or language is offensive to me and why. So I suppose I'm a "toned-down" or "subdued" Jesus freak

There is just something about the word freak that I don't like. Yes I do love Jesus, yes I tell people about Him when I feel prompted by the Holy Spirit, but I don't think it's freaky.

For some reason your last comment made me laugh!! Weatherologist I know a couple of ladies in my town and they are just like the lady you described and she probably was once pregnant and could see the "I'M FINISHED WITH THIS PART NOW" look and felt you needed prayer some people are just that way and think nothing of it!! They surely never mean to offend.
I have a book written by the band DC Talk called Jesus Freaks it has stories of the pain and torture people have gone through, some died of horrible deaths for their faith and some survived. When reading those and other stories I wonder if the time comes and I am faced with denying my faith how much of a Jesus Freak I will be.
I always pray to be able to endure any encounter and uncomfortable feelings to be able to spread his LOVE when HE needs me and to hold stead fast to HIS words that HE is with me

I love Jesus.
I can be a freak.
Jesus freaks are wierd, even to me, a Christian. Nothing wrong with not being ashamed of your faith, but balance is important in everything.
But Jesus Freak by dc Talk is one of the best Christian albums ever, IMO!

Yes.... being a 2 year old Christian... almost.. Yes. I know that the road is narrow and few will find it. At first I was bent on making people find it... I was just excited at the gift I had been given. I have toned down a bit... (yeah I know) realizing that this turns most people off, and that it is only my calling to share the gospel.. and the truth..... not convict people with it.. that is the job of the Holy Spirit. I think that once I realized that I can't save anyone, and I grew a little in my walk with Him, it got easier... I can give out the vs. in the bible that the Holy Spirit leads me to. And since God's word never returns void, that is all I need.

Well put....the key word here is BALANCE.
My son plays youth football and one of the moms started a fitness group in the off-season for families (both kids and parents). She has a PE degree and was very organized. It sounded like alot of fun and many families joined. Well, about a few months into it, a few of us noticed some subtle spiritual/religious remarks (and later, some not so subtle remarks and references).
Personally, I was okay w/ her references to Christ and even some "sharing", but when a few mentioned she had approached them about being "saved", I think it was crossing a line.
As a catholic, I told her privately that I understood her desire to evangelize, but felt it wasn't the right approach or best setting for that. I thought people might feel manipulated since we all gathered under the impression of fitness fun and it might appear that she had an ulterior motive.
I know others who felt very uncomfortable and viewd her as a "Jesus freak" and left the group. I viewd it as misdirected over-zealousness.

I've learned much from Jesus but I don't prey to him.
Jesus was a teacher, God was the creator.
