Do you try to provoke people to anger? Would Jesus do so?
For once, I agree with General David Patreus on something...
This Florida Pastor did a very hateful and ugly thing.
"At the same time, I want to emphasize, as have many Afghan leaders, that to attack and kill innocent people
in response to the deplorable act of one individual is outrageous, and an affront to human decency and dignity,"

The thing is, it seems that the Florida Pastor was desiring to get a reaction - otherwise, why carry out such a provocative act? For what other reason would the man hold a public book burning of what a billion people on earth consider to be their sacred book. What a pathetic thing to do!

Heartsong, America is a very tolerant country. We let people do pretty much whatever they want as long as they don't hurt other people.
If someone wants to burn an American flag or burn a Koran, we let them do it. We don't care if it upsets other people. We have decided that individual freedon is more important than worrying about whose feelings will be hurt.
Why did the pastor burn the Koran? Who cares? In America, he has the freedom to burn whatever books he wants.
This guy is alot like ole Harold Camping, a part nut, part con man and wanting to see his name in print. He is a shame on Christianity and does NOTHING to advance the cause of Christ! But he is protected by the 1st Amendment, my advice to people is pray for him but ignore this mess we have enough on and overflowing our plate to worry about and time is too short.
I agree with you Heartsong, this preacher is a true nut job and while this is certainly not the first “book burning” sanctioned by a church or “the Church” it should have never been done. And, No, I don’t think Jesus would have acted in this fashion either.
However, at the risk of sounding insensitive, the (radical) Muslim reaction to the burning DID prove one of this preacher’s points – that (some) Muslims would KILL innocents in retaliation! And now the Muslims are burning President Obama in effigy.
It is so tragic that our country has to deal with any of these religious crazies – Christian, Muslim, Jew, Hindu, Buddhist, whatever!

So good that you stopped in to talk, John.
By 'exercising his 1st amendment rights' just 'because he can', he has put Americans at risk. It's not like we haven't already given the Muslims plenty of reason to despise us already. There is a saying about the stupidity of kicking a hornet's nest. Only fools do such things. BTW, while we're on the topic of "rights and freedoms", it seems that the state of Oregon is getting ready to rule that certain Christians may be held accountable for withholding medical care from their children who then die (as per their right to 'faith healing'). And why not. Neither religion nor the 1st amendment of the Constitution gives anyone unlimited rights. We do not have the right to sacrifice humans on the altar (but that is what some people are doing in a round about way).

Actually quite believable, predictable and expected. Religion is about hate, and hate begets hate, a vicious cycle that will destroy mankind unless humanity comes to its senses and relegates religion to it's rightful place as ancient fiction and superstitution.

Karzai strongly condemned the Quran burning and asked "that the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives and the U.S. president condemn this action ...
However, President Karzai's brother denied that the Kandahar protests were a result of the Quran burning.
"The protests in the last two days in Kandahar have no link to the Quran burning in U.S. at all, but were all organized by some people to loot public and government properties,"
Ahmad Wali Karzai told CNN, adding that he condemned the desecration of Islam's holy book.
"Excuses are only reasons for doing what people want to do in an attempt to justify their own actions."
Manipulation from unsound minds on both sides of the equation.
