No, it is not. It is just misunderstood by hyper-christians. The evolution thing is just the creature, I guess, going through puberty and growing up. I watched pokemon at times when I was younger and I never had any evil thoughts/acts from it.

This is one of the most uneducated responses I have ever read.
I have studied the occult for many years- there are NO Pokemon characters in any occult literature anywhere.

Inducing sleep is demonic? Tell that to the pharmaceutical companies...ok, I'll let that one slide- pharmaCos are evil.

Poison is not witchcraft!!! Anyone can find a poison, don't need to be a witch. And besides, most witches are peaceful loving people who focus on positive things like -tolerance....honor, respect and kindness.
Don't want to be poisoned? Stop drinking city water, that has added Floride. That's poison.

And lastly....it's a game!!!

I stumbled upon this one and found it interesting. My son plays... he enjoys trading the cards and "battling." I like the game because it relies heavily on logic and mathematical ability. For a fifth-grader to sit and figure out elaborate strategies based on odds and ratios, addition, subtraction and multiplication is win-win in my book! The strategy and logic reminds me of that needed to play chess, although chess is spatial and this is more mathematical. You need to think ahead and keep all of the rules of how each Pokemon acts and defends itself in mind; it's fairly complicated.

I wouldn't worry about it being linked to witchcraft or Satan. The evolutions are, as someone said, growth from a baby Pokemon to an adult. And being "poisoned" or "asleep" simply means that that character can't attack (e.g. take points away from the opponent's character) on his next turn. It's just a game, and an educational one at that!

When I was a teen in the 70s, rock and Top 40 pop music was a tool of Satan. Nowadays, Harry Potter is a tool of Satan. everything we see influences us, i dont care what it is. if you watch pokemon, or some crazy preacher dropping people to the ground. I dont care for either, but i would rather watch pokemon rather than some preacher zapping folks. How is that not somehow demonic?

I've had plenty of Pokemon games and THERE IS NO WITCHCRAFT in it. It is NOT REAL. It is a FICTIONAL game. I am a gamer myself, and I am appalled with people shoving their Southern Baptist beliefs on pop culture - especially pop culture from other countries. Pokemon is Japanese. Most Japanese people are NOT Christian - they are Buddhist/Shinto and don't worship our God. Japan is more laid-back about religion than this country. Buddhism has mysticism, which is obviously a foreigner to the Southern Baptist Convention. I just love how white American Protestants love to shove their worldview on other people.

And guess what? This rant is coming from a Bible-believing Christian! Who says that we have to live like Puritans?

And BTW people, Pokemon still exists and the TV show is still making new episodes. Plus there are plenty of fans over the age of 10. There are whole websites full of Pokemon fans, most of whom are at least 16. (Another problem many older adults have is the lack of respect for my generation's pop culture. I bet you got annoyed when your grandparents complained about the Beatles or disco or whatever was around when you were kids.) Anime is a legit form of entertainment. I bet in one generation, it will be treated as normal and not as some psycho fringe thing like it is now.

This topic would have been more appropriate on some evangelical website than City Data - a website with a sizable non-religious population.

Like SNUFFY said there will always be people who claim Satan is behind everything. And Snuffy, in case you are the only one on here who missed it, I DID have an experience with a most unpleasant Christain clergyman who WAS against chinese food and fortune cookies, claiming they are Satanic. And a few people still wonder, why after all these years, after all the experiences I have had with Christians, after decades of observing them, and not wanting to be anything like them, why I am not one.....
My children only know of satan and demons as mythic creatures, along side unicorns, Pegasus, Apollo, Bigfoot, Noah , God, gods, ghosts....the list goes on. They also know that Pokemon is just a game, a game that teaches competition, has rules, and requires at times some creative problem solving to win. Nothing wrong with that. And the cahracters are fictitious, like some people's dieties and demons, and our lives are not cluttered and poisoned by such thinking.
Now if you will excuse me, I have a lot of work today. Oh and it is Friday, so let me point out that CHINESE FOOD IS TONITE!!!!
