I want to know where did the ideas of rules against watching television, playing ball, and going to the movies originated in the Bible Belt , and are they still in practice today in the region?

In churches, and I suspect so. I see people in the stores, with a hoard of kids, all dressed in long dress with long sleeves for girls, and long pants and long sleeve shirts for boys behaving literally like zombies following the parent through places like Sam's Club.

I'm from the South and in the area where I live, some devout Christians believe it's wrong to watch television shows and movies that glorify sex, drugs, violence, etc. So it's not watching tv or going to movies that they avoid, but the content of those shows. The part about playing ball, I have no idea what you're talking about unless it's that they don't schedule little league games during regular church hours.

As far as where the "rules" about tv and movies originated, I would say from verses in the Bible like 1 Thess. 5:22, "Abstain from all appearance of evil." The ballgame rules probably originated simply because people thought kids should be in church when services are scheduled.

Does that help?

I've never witnessed anything like that and I've lived in the South all my life.

And that's certainly not a "bible belt" thing. There are parents everywhere who enforce at least some of those "rules".

same here and me neither.
although I'm sure there are a few families who don't own a tv for that reason, I've never heard of the other things mentioned.(in that context though,I bet they own plenty of other gadgets that can watch tv.I've seen THAT before!)
the main thing I get here is to just be expected, without good, sound reason..to believe that the republican party is holy, holy, holy, and they are NOT.And oh,yes....to think that the democrats are demons..they AREN'T.
When the '08 election was going on,I was bascially patted on the head and told to 'be a good little white girl and vote for the white 'publican man'. I did neither.

Then perhaps you should get out more, or pay more attention to your surrounding, or you live in a city in the south such as Miami, Orlando, Atlanta, Dallas, etc. which are in the south, but they sure aren't southern.

I tried to glean a hint of where in the south you live by seeing if you have posted anything in a city or state thread. Looks like everyone of your 1500+ posts is solely in the "C" thread, thus I suspect you really do wear blinders with a very narrow field of vision.

Or you are calling me a liar, which is it?

I moved to the South not long ago, but I haven't seen anything like that. Regarding the zombie thing....I'm not sure what that's supposed to mean.
