I'd go with healthy - a fruit and vegetable tray, and perhaps cheese and crackers with it.
I would avoid desserts, mostly because I think refined sugar is bad for all of us whether or not we're diabetic.
Ditto. Skip the desserts. And if you have any low carb eaters in your group, a protein snack is always appreciated, so some sausage to go with the cheese or those ham/cream cheese roll ups, or devilled eggs, or just a simple bowl of nuts or seeds.
I've never been to a church social where there was beer served. Not that I'm opposed to beer - but are you joking?
