My personal feelings is that one can not determine truth merely by finding a tradition that agrees with you and your sensibilities. So is the art of church shopping just a walk in the dark intended to just make the shopper feel good and provide entertainment and fellowship while leaving the search for truth irrelevant?

Has relativism left us with such a muddy truth as to negate the differences as irrelevant? Aka, it's all good.

What are the alternatives to church shopping? Should we be researching to discover Jesus's intended truth in lieu of church shopping?

Yes.

However.

The term church shopping is mostly used by pastors that want people to stay in their church so they continue giving money there rather than another church. As a result. church shopping or "hopping" as it is mostly used is made into something wrong.

As if there is any reasoning that a Christian is obligated to stay at any church they come to and try or even join.

Church shopping is usully defined as the process of finding a church to belong in. Shopping for a church. Try them out one by one until God says stop. A good way to find the *right* church for you.

Chruch hopping is what people do when they go from church to church as they find fault. Attend for a couple of months or a year then leave. A bad thing. Usually stems from getting bored or offended.

I understand what you are saying however, that doesn't change what I said. Finding fault and leaving a church is hardly a bad thing until you start defining specifics.

What I am talking about is sermons in general terms designed to imply that leaving a church for any reason other than being able to give some reason where the congregation nods in glossy eyes agreement that it is godly.

I have left many churches because I found fault and they were unresolvable issues and I had no moral obligation to stay at any of them.

Even if someone leaves a church for something as petty as disagreeing on the color of the pew upholstery, one has to realize that leaving a church organization is in and of itself irrelevant.

The pettyness of someones attitude will not necessarily change just because they attend church anywhere and doubtfully manifests only in the realm of church attendance.

You will never find truth in an establishment the fears truth, and considers the quest for truth a sin.

Is the OP talking about going from one church to the next within the same religious beliefs or different churches with entirely different beliefs.

It looks like no one wants to look in the mirror because they may not like what they find. Folks like church shopping because it makes them feel good and, hey, that's what it's all about.

No church pastor or congregation is going to be perfect. We all fall short of the Lord's perfection.

So to answer your question, I do not think the pursuit of truth will be fully solved by church hopping. Finding a compatable church is very important to facilitate worship. However, at some point, each Christian is responsible for their own walk with the Lord too, and must continue their search for truth through their own reading and prayer.

As a Lutheran conservative Bible believing Pastor I encourage church shoping, as long as your guide as to where to land is finding a church that correctly teaches the word of God, and in its practices tries to carry out God's will.
