Default Kosher Jesus? Was it really the Romans that wanted Jesus dead and not the Jews?

What do you all think of this? I'm still mulling it over. It is alot to dissect in order to counter it. As a Catholic, it is making think more deeply about the roots of my faith. Among other claims, this Rabbi says that claiming to be the Messiah was not considered blasphemous by first century Jews and that it was really the corrupt Jewish leaders and Romans that wanted Jesus executed, not because calling Himself the Messiah upset Jews, but because the corrupt Jewish leaders feared His rhetoric would upset the Romans and compromise their positions.:

I think they had many reasons to appose Jesus but politics indeed was a very strong one that motivated them to kill Him.

JN 11:47-53 "Then gathered the chief priests and the Pharisees a council, and said, What do we? for this man does many miracles. If we let him thus alone, all men will believe on him: and the Romans shall come and take away both our place and nation. And one of them, named Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said unto them, Ye know nothing at all, Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not. And this spake he not of himself: but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation; And not for that nation only, but that also he should gather together in one the children of God that were scattered abroad. Then from that day forth they took counsel together for to put him to death."

It started out that way, beginning with herod, who killed all children under the age of two in his attempt to kill Jesus.
