For those who believe that our spirits go straight to heaven at death, why do we need a resurrected body at a later time. There are people who have been dead for thousands of years. If they are conscious and happy at the present in their current state then why will Jesus need to resurrect their bodies?

I understand, I don`t take you to be disrespectful at all. Well let`s see, I used the word why (question word) and I used a question mark for punctuation. So, I guess it couldn`t have been a question, could it? LOL

Never mind...... your response is enough. Just checking where your spirit was.

If my spirit goes straight to heaven, I'd be overwhelmed with joy.

(With or without my body)

I think that the the whole glory of the resurrection is that we have this hope of being raised to life after death. Jesus conquered death through the resurrection and so I believe that we are really dead when we die.

Thanks for the reply. I`m really unsure if we just lay in the grave and our spirits are unconcience or if our spirits are alive in heaven or paradise. I know people have a difference of opinion on this and there seems to be scripture to back up both opinions. But I did see a lecture where a doctor who researched near death experiences (thousands of cases) talked to people who had gone into other rooms while their heart was stopped and were being resusitated. They actually described what was said in these other rooms and what certain people were wearing. They checked it out immediately and these people were 100% correct. It was very interesting.

The way I understand it is that our spirits return to God but it isn't a conscious existence. Just like when Jesus cried out before He died, "Father, into Your hands, I commend my spirit!" John 3:13 is a reference that speaks of no one ascending into Heaven except Jesus, "No one has ascended to heaven, but He who descended from heaven, even the Son of Man" and He alone possesses immortality (1 Tim. 6:16) (NASB)

Christ had a resurrected body that his desciples didn't recognize at once..Probably because it was raised in perfection..I believe we will be resurrected in much the same way..I also don't think we are conscious in the grave..We are dead, our spirit/soul is with God..
