I don't think the media was behind the fall out practices held in schools while Russia was sending their missles to Cuba while the US was less than 15 minutes from launching.

The Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad called on Allah to send down the Hidden Imam 9/2006 ( Muslims equivalent to Armageddon) at the United Nations.

Do you have any sources that has the Iranian President recanting .... ?

That is a Twelfer belief. Over 95% of Muslims are not twelvers. We Believe Allaah(swt) will not send the Mehdi (what some Twelvers call the Hidden or Twelth Imam) until the return of Jesus(swt)
