Jesus Walks On The Water -mark 6:45-56
Why do you think Jesus chose that particular time to do such an incredible miracle such as walking on the water? What does that tell us about how the Lord will give us what we need to have faith,if we are open to accept it?

probably a good article for religious forum but
the answer might be
the disciples buy into him being the messiah in stages. by the time he leaves they got no doubt at all which is why they all get martyred no doubt at all. the ultimate buy in. the miracles increase and get further and further out there. at the end they are in all the way. progressive belief and faith.

Jesus sent them into the storm to show us when storms come into our lives, sometimes He sent them there, but He is always in the storm with us and will bring us through the storm. Jesus walked on water yet sometimes we don't think He is able to work in our lives and marvel when He does.

I think that Jesus was building their faith in Him. They had just seen Him do the miracles with the loaves and the fish but they had not fully understood what they had witnessed. Mark 6 says that their hearts were hardened but they worshiped Him saying Truly, You are the Son of God when they saw what happened with Peter and when the winds died down. Peter had faith when he asked Jesus to command him to come out on the water, but he needed more trust because he began to sink when the winds were boisterous and he became afraid. So this says to me that we may have faith in Jesus, but we need to be perfected in our faith and trust Him fully and completely in all things. Even when we have seen His hand in our lives working in difficult situations, we may encounter another test or trial to see just how pure that faith is or to build our faith.

One of my favorite parts of the bible, esp. when Peter walks on the water as well. Real simple message here....take your eyes off of Jesus, get ready to swim.

One thing I have learned is that the scriptures have many layers, like an onion. The deeper you go, the greater the lesson. I recall reading several explanations about the water/sea in scriptures. The sea seems to be a metaphor for the world, sometimes at peace but very often churning, descriptive of the unsettledness of life. Jonah tried to run from God by losing himself in the sea of humanity, but God had no trouble finding him and making his trip so unbearable that his fellow travelers threw him out into the sea to prevent all of them from drowning. But God saved him out of that sea. One writer even said that Jonah was a metaphor for Israel. She was given the mandate to take His word to the world, but wanted to keep it for herself, not share it with the wicked world who had so injured her, and God then gave her into the hands of her enemy. But in the end, God rescued Jonah, and so will he rescue Israel and all His children. God has the power to make the sea calm, but He also wants us to know that in Him, we can overcome the billows and waves just as Jesus did by walking upon it and not letting it take us under, into its confusion and terror.
Is it an easy lesson to learn? Not for me. Even Peter, who has been with Jesus and seen what He could do, let the 'sea' distract him and begin to take him under.
It's not an easy lesson to learn. Some learn it much slower than others.
