Once you have the new spirit of Christ there is no need for the old rituals and works. They are incompatible. For example sacrificing a lamb won't bring forgiveness for sins to someone who is already in Christ. It is a new spirit, new life, new person, and new ways of living. Throw away the old skin.

See Heb 10:18 And where these have been forgiven, sacrifice for sin is no longer necessary.

Jesus used examples of everyday life to explain his message, but it took me a while to figure out the thing about new wine and old skin. It didn't make sense to me since I knew nothing about the process of making wine in skins. Of course it made perfect sense to the people back then, because they knew that old skin would have shrunk already, and new wine expands when it ferments, so the pressure would burst the old skin. You put new wine in new skins so it can expand with the wine.

Finn J is correct. What Jesus seeks to establish is NEw. The old Covenants are being replaced. Out will go the temple rites, the sacrifices, the priests, the purity laws. He is establishing his new kingdom, which is based on faith, and the work of Christ which alone can save. So you can't match up or combine the old with the new. The old is thrown out and replaced by something better, the New, which Jesus establishes.

The wine skin that burst means , the leaven of the fermented of the wine is a metaphor for pride....which would be a man all puffed up and snooty proud would ruin the new gifts of God for works of the Holy Spirit and in salvation were false proud religion would be condoned and accepted as faith before God ..... For their righteousness of the proud will be rejected and people will need to humble themselves and obey the call of the Lord to receive from the Lord ..... Just as a revival prayers for Church's are accepted , people will have to be lead into humilities by the Lord and repentance will come and then the Lords Harvest of souls can come ..... Or people turning to Christ will have to repent and be a humble as little Children lead to obey and be water baptized in repentance which will humble a person and prepare then to turn away from the world and old faithless dry churches that never got them Jesus spirit into their lives
