In Proverbs 13: 10 ...``Only by pride comes contention, but with the well advised is wisdom``....In Proverbs 15: 18...A wrathful man stirs up strife, but he that is slow to anger appease strife ``... In Galatians 5: 20... ``Works of the flesh wrath , strife ..``.......See wrath and strife , and contention will attract demons spirit who will start a fight who need to be cast down , and were people can find unforgiveness...
Depends on what you're defining as "contentious". If you read some of the letters that the apostle Paul, Peter, and James wrote.....well, they could be considered downright contentious by some people on this board.

What do you say Vizio, about their letters? - do you believe they were "contentious"?

I believe the Bible speaks plainly against contention between people. So does the Book of Mormon:
For verily, verily I say unto you, he that hath the spirit of contention is not of me, but isof the devil, who is the father of contention, and he stirreth up the hearts of men to contend with anger, one with another. (3 Nephi 11:29)
I think the subject here is fitting for a Christian forum. Do you think being contentious is a sin?
Contending for the Faith?
Jude 3: Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.
Now if your being contentious just to cause strife I would say yes. If your contending for the faith I would say your being obedient to God.

I dont' think the verse in Jude 3 is really referring to contentiousness (if you will) at all. I think that in Jude 1:3 that it just means to compete against the flesh as to not let what you believe in being result in failthlessness.

No. I think they recognized doctrine as important -- something that most people on this board don't agree with.
