mshipmate,

Since you're not a 6th day advocate, you probably won't be amenable to providing any writing as requested in the OP.

Since it has again been awhile, someone new looking in who thinks that the crucifixion took place on the 6th day of the week may know of some writing as requested in the OP.

I just first read this and am curious as to what day of the week do you call the 6th day?

mshipmate,

re: "...what day of the week do you call the 6th day?"

The U.S. calendars label it "Friday".

I wonder if anyone has documentation that shows that a phrase stating a certain number of days, as well as a certain number of nights was ever used in the first century or before when it absolutely didn’t include at least parts of the specified number of days and at least parts of the specified number of nights?
In a book called, 'Idioms in the Bible Explained', on page 46, the author explains that there is a Hebrew idiom in the East referring to what we would call, "being in a jam", or "being in trouble", where they would say "in the belly of the whale". This no doubt refers to 3 days and 3 nights of Jonah's trouble.

In referring to Jesus and His 3 days and 3 nights, His trials began when He was in the Garden. This was the beginning of His "3 nights and 3 days" in the belly of the whale, and also when He began to shed blood by sweating. That was Thursday night, the beginning of the Day of Passover. The lambs could be killed no sooner than noon during the day following that night of the Last Supper. The full moon, which always occurs on Passover, had a full eclipse which became total at 3:01 Greenwhich time on Friday afternoon, which would have been 5:01 PM Jerusalem time, and the moon rose in full eclipse at 5:10 PM. Jerusalem time.

(For you gematria geeks, 301 is the numerical equivalent of the Greek word 'kranion', which means 'Calvary'. The Greek word for moon is 'selene' which has a value of 301. The word for 'lambs' in Hebrew, has a value of 301. Jesus died on the 'ninth hour', which begins at 3:01 PM. Astronomers have calculated all of the eclipses for the last 5000 years, and they found that on Passover, 33AD, when the sun went dark for 3 hours from noon to 3 PM, the sun was positioned at the star 'El Nath' in the constellation 'Aries', the Ram. 'El Nath' means 'the wounded', or 'slain'. Astronomers don't know how the sun was darkened at that time, because a total solar eclipse is impossible during a full moon at Passover, but they did find it to be the day of a full lunar eclipse. So when the sun was dark, (I don't know what actually happened!), the people in Jerusalem would have been looking where the star "wounded", or "slain". would have been.)

The slaying of the lambs was to take place at noon that Friday, but since the sun was darkened, it was unlawful for the priests to kill the lambs during darkness. But when the sun began to shine again at 3PM, this gave Jesus the opportunity to be the first lamb slain on that Passover fulfillment.

So Jesus was 'in the belly of the whale, from Thursday night, Friday night, and Saturday night. Also on Friday during the day, Saturday during the day, and a very small portion of Sunday during the dawn hour, (He rose ON the third day). Being April 3rd, sunrise would have been 6:23 AM, where 6AM marks the beginning of the day. Even though Mary Magdalene went to the tomb while it was still dark (John 20:1), the official beginning of "day" was 6AM, so Jesus could have resurrected a few minutes after 6:00AM, the guards fled immediately, and Mary shows up to an empty tomb, yet Jesus would have still been "in the earth" during a portion of Sunday's day.

As for it being 33AD, there are many clues to this. The biggest would be Jesus' birth which can be conclusively proved to have occurred in September of 2BC, which places the 33 year old Jesus' death in 33 AD, remembering that there is no zero year. (I won't divert to proving this birth here; it's off subject.) The person known as Ignatius, Bishop of Antioch, was born about 30AD. He was reputed to be the child that Jesus set before the Disciples in Matthew 18:2, and was one person that testified that he had seen Jesus rise to Heaven. This makes him a toddler at that time. He also wrote in chapter 9 of his letter to the Trallians that Jesus was sentenced at the 3rd hour, (9AM), crucified at the 6th hour, (noon), and died at the 9th Hour, (3PM), all on the day of Passover, which was Friday that year. He also said that Jesus rose from the dead "at the dawning of the Lord's Day", which was Sunday.

Concerning the "Wave Sheaf Offering", this was presented at the 3rd hour on the day after the Sabbath. The Sabbath was April 4th, and the next day was Sunday the 5th. So the Wave Sheaf Offering was presented at 9AM on Sunday morning. When Mary ran to the tomb, it had to be between 6AM and 6:23AM. She found the tomb empty and ran back and found Peter and John coming to the tomb. After they left the tomb was when Mary saw who she thought was the gardener, and when she realized that it was Jesus, she tried to touch Him, but Jesus told her that He couldn't be touched until He was ascended to His Father. Later on that same day, Jesus appeared to the disciples and He allowed them to touch Him, so He must have ascended to the Throne at 9 AM to present Himself to the Father as the total fulfillment of the Wave Sheaf Offering.

Regarding the "Wave Sheaf Offering" I agree with your view. But Jesus going to the heart of the earth before He died, that is impossible, He spent the evening with His disciples at the Last Supper. And that was Tuesday evening as some orthodox churches still celebrate the Last Supper on Tuesday evening in the Passover week. The 3 days and 3 nights are not an idiom, but reality, which had to be fulfilled as a sign to the Jews, that Jesus is the Messiah. He had to be dead 3 full days, after this the Jews considered a person dead. The 3 full days proof that Jesus was dead and that He raised from the dead bodily the third day.

Very good as his trials began long before Calvary as he went before the Sanhedrin, Herod, etc. Spit on, crown of thorns and more are all a part of it. All, including his death on the 1st day of the 3.

The heart of the earth is not the tomb, only the dead body was buried in the tomb and rose the third day. Jesus Himself went to the heart of the earth, when He died on the 14th of Nisan at 3pm and rose on the 17th of Nisan. A chronology of the crucifixion and resurrection according to ancient texts says that the Didascalia Apostolorum (200 AD) supports a Tuesday Last Supper and a Wednesday crucifixion. It says "For when we had eaten the Passover on the third day of the week at even (this was already the 4th day, who began at sunset), we went to the Mount of Olives. And so in the night of the fourth day of the week drew on, Judas betrayed the Lord. Source: giveshare.org/HolyDay/wednesdaycrucifixion

Agreed. Christ was in the tomb for 72 hrs. or 3 full days and 3 full nights. To say it's an idiom is to call Christ a liar. The actually idiom is in the words '3 days.' Or in other words without the word "nights" it is an idiom for, "any part of a day can been considered a day." However, when Christ said, "and 3 nights." this idiom no longer applies.

There are MANY opinions out there, but the Wed. to Sat. is the only one that agrees with the 'high sabbath,' and the "weekly sabbath" and the other "facts" in the Scriptures. Also, the word 'week' in 'the first day of the week' is Sabbaton, which means sabbaths, and the word 'day' is in italics which means it wasn't in the original texts. So it would read:
Mt 28:1 In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first of the Sabbatons, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.
