God found the old testament flawed is why He wrote a New Testament. Can God make mistakes? I don't think it was God who made the mistakes but man's interpretation of God and His ways. So God came forth as Jesus Christ to clarify ALL things and to remove the old testament veil.

Romans 8:7-13--For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for a second. 8--For finding fault with them, He saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a New covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Juda: 9--Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt; because they contintued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord. 10--For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days saith the Lord; I WILL PUT MY LAWS INTO THEIR MIND, AND WRITE THEM IN THEIR HEARTS: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people: 11--And they shall not teach every man his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest. 12--For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquitites will I remember no more. 13--In that He saith, A NEW COVENANT, HE HATH MADE THE FIRST OLD. NOW THAT WHICH DECAYETH AND WAXETH OLD IS READY TO VANISH AWAY.
Hebrews 10:9--Then said He, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that He may establish the second.

If God Himself found the old testament flawed and wanted to do away with it, then shouldn't we be VERY careful what we would teach from it? It seems to me that the only thing God kept of the old were the Ten Commandments.

Sheila -

You are getting 'warmer' as the saying goes. No doubt you will get a very mixed response to this post.

Well with all the hypocrisy, God inspired violence, human sacrifice, advocating of slavery, demeaning women, and more examples ad infinitum, it is really beyond any question that the old testament is flawed, to anyone with a working mind. You can get a more valid sense of moral integrity from Harry Potter and the Philosopher's stone than that nonsense.

What if your major premise is wrong? What if God knowingly made the old covenant which was God promising the Israelites all the blessings if they kept the law and promising them all the curses of the law if they failed to keep it and the Israelites agreed to this covenant, what if God knowingly covenanted with them knowing full well in advance they could not keep the law because they were FLESH?

Romans 8:6-8 For the disposition of the flesh is death, yet the disposition of the spirit is life and peace,
(7) because the disposition of the flesh is enmity to God, for it is not subject to the law of God, for
neither is it able." (8) Now those who are in flesh are not able to please God.

God created humanity flesh knowing full well in advance they would not be able to keep His law. The apostle Paul said this about the law:
Rom 5:20 Yet law came in by the way, that the offense should be increasing. Yet where sin increases, grace superexceeds,

The law was given to escort them to Christ:

Gal 3:23 Now before the coming of faith we were garrisoned under law, being locked up together for the faith about to be revealed."
Gal 3:24 So that the law has become our escort to Christ, that we may be justified by faith."

God declares the end from the beginning. He is not some bumbling idiot Who keeps trying to fix what He messed up.

While I complety agree, the NT commands are how we are the church should live by. The New Testament is based off the OT and all the commands in the NT are based out of the Torah with some more added on how we can Love one another. The ceremonial and sacrificial parts of the law changed, but much of the OT is still valid and should not be considered obsolete. If we take that approach of 10 commandments only, it would be now okay to sleep with your immediate relatives, eat rats and snakes, and all sorts of other things not listed in the 10 commandments.

I agree in essence. In understanding scripture we discover hidden deep within us the Savior of the world, the life that is the Light to all men.

The Old Testament is not flawed. Our understanding of the Bible is often flawed.
