One of the things that I learned is how many people I went to high school with and became police officers/state troopers/firefighters are now VERY Christian. Since my high school was Catholic, more than half of these people are now non-denominational type Christians and parade both their religious beliefs and their kids. It's amazing that, growing up in an area that was fairly relaxed when it comes to religion, these guys, and a few gals, became such religious zealots.

Have you noticed similar patterns with these occupations or allied fields? Is there a reason for this or do you have a hypothesis?

Well, I guess when you're pulling someone over on a dark night for a routine traffic stop, then believing in God suddenly becomes a pretty good idea.

Are they all in the same department? Or a number of them?

It's possible there is a strong Christian presence in the department. Or perhaps some churches in the area minister to that department, or a group of departments.

In any event, I second cpg's comments...in a dangerous profession, I would think someone would be challenged to be serious about their faith.

It's in Southern California. Different types of outfits (PD, sheriff, CHP), different cities or jurisdictions, and far apart from each other. All over the map.

Then I'd go with cpg's hypothesis. A dangerous job would probably cause someone to think about your faith.

Law enforcement and Christianity have a lot in common. In both cases, law is upheld for the sake of order and structure in society. In both there is also an interest in bringing deliverance of the good from the sins of evil. Makes sense.
