Cooper considered leaving at the time — if he’d be given a burial plot in the church’s historic cemetery, health and life insurance benefits to age 72, an undisclosed “thank you” payment, a donation in his name to a charity, and $200,000 per year for seven years to fund a support staff.

Somebody explain this to me like I'm a 2 year old.

I thought the Catholic church was poor?
The CHURCH bought him a 5.5 MILLION dollar house in Manhattan

Nearly half of the church's board of directors has resigned in the past six months in a dispute with its rector over the direction and mission of the 314-year-old Episcopal church, which became a symbol of downtown's resilience and recovery in the wake of 9/11.

I agree.

When Religion becomes a major business, something is not right with the picture.

It is worse than that, Wood. Because religion is a business . . . it is a major stumbling block to our spiritual maturation and development. It is a true whoredom to the dollar and power that has been responsible for great evil over the millennia.

explain like a 2 yr old:
you see young child, you too can have a business in your future. but the best business in one that is exempt from taxes. you only have to show up, i know its a weekend, on sunday. sometimes you can have a midweek course, lets say wednesday. you can tell people to give you money. the better you speak, or if you make them feel guilty, they give more. of course you have to do nice things because you will speak about God. make sure your message is pleasing, try anything to get people to come into your business. oh yea young child, bring your bible, you can even read from it. people trust you because you are the leader. they will even call you pastor, even though you will not even know thier names. now, lets get you over to change your diaper at the baby changing room. we can even watch our great pastor from there.

Maybe the fact that he oversees $1,000,000,000+ in church assets has something to do with it. The church is apparently not hurting for money.
