I think a human being would die after 3 *hours* inside a whale... let alone 3 days.

Matthew 12:38 ¶ Then certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee.
39 But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas:
40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
41 The men of Nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: because they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here.
42 The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for she came from the uttermost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.
43 When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none.
44 Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished.
45 Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation. (AV)
I've been doing a little more thinking on these verses, and thought I'd share a few of my thoughts. It actually has a lot to do with the "legalism" topic we've been discussing.

The scribes and Pharisees were asking Jesus to prove Himself to them. Many people today are asking "where does it say in the Bible that I have to live this way? Prove it to me! Show it to me beyond a reasonable doubt, and I'll follow." Well, we have scriptures.. "Oh no, you're going to have to show me more then that. The Bible was clearly mistranslated and misinterpreted by man."

Unbelief!

"Show me a sign."

What more sign do we want? The men of Nineveh repented at the preaching of Jonah. Why? They were convicted in their hearts and followed. They didn't ask Jonah to do miracles or prove to them that he was a true prophet.

And that's the only sign many of us are going to get.

Now comes the scary part: Many people today recognize that they have "an evil spirit" in them. Whatever it is - covetousness, lust, jealousy, anger, whatever.. "Show me that I need to change! Prove to me that I need to be different than my peers!" They maybe try to get rid of the "fruit" and neglect the root. The "evil spirit" leaves, but the house is still empty... God's perfect will has not been sought out; His presence has not been welcomed. "Do I really need to give my all?"

And so, after a time, the "evil spirit" comes back, meeting no resistance. "God doesn't really care about it.. He didn't clearly show me it was bad." Because of unbelief, because of neglecting the call, other spirits come in, and "the last state of the man is worse than the first";

He has deceived himself by unbelief.

How sad!

Yeah cg81;
That's deep; But on the other hand we should reach them by our testimonies
Is this any different than Jesus's disciple "Doubting Thomas"? except that he was not possessed with an evil spirit? I mean how could you doubt someone that you have seen with the "naked eye perform many miracles' the deliverance of the demoniac of Gadera should have been enough proof for Thomas don't you think? "but nooooo" He still doubted until He actually revealed himself and told Thomas to put his hand in his wound.."Bam" Thomas believes. He had seen too many miracles as a follower of Christ to not believe .

You're right.. Our testimonies and example should be something that they won't deny, even if they deny the Word.

Every heart, meaning children too?
