HOUSTON, TX -- (MARKET WIRE) -- August 7, 2006 -- If there could be one place protected from the cancerous infection of pornography and sexual misconducts, one would assume that the Christian church would be that sanctuary. But, recent research is revealing that no one is immunized against the vice-grip clutches of sexual addictive behaviors.

"The poll results indicate that 50% of all Christian men and 20% of all Christian women are addicted to pornography," said Clay Jones, founder and President of Second Glance Ministries whose ministry objectives include providing people with information which will enable them to fully understand the impact of today's societal issues. 60% of the women who answered the survey admitted to having significant struggles with lust; 40% admitted to being involved in sexual sin in the past year; and 20% of the church-going female participants struggle with looking at pornography on an ongoing basis.(http://www.christianet.com)

ChristiaNet Poll Finds That Evangelicals Are Addicted to Porn

Porn additition is very much one of the biggest if not the biggest additions for people in the 21st century. With it if you are Christian is the guilt associated with it. With it I don't think too many Christians are truly happy on the type of person they are.

i have also heard that whenever there are christian conferences the porn use in hotels increase. I have always said that what you see with your eyes is an illusion. You cannot see the persons heart. Many are addicted to porn, others to drinking, others to being religious. We all have our monkeys, some are bigger than others. the ones that are the worse are those who pretend they got it all together.

I have mixed feelings about this poll. I feel that religious people tend to be more plagued with feelings of guilt for sexual behavior and are more likely to report being "addicted" to porn when they're really just looking at it fairly often.

If you ask people outside of the Judeo-Christian-Islam faiths or people who aren't fundamentalists, they probably won't say they're "addicted" unless their behavior is more intense and destructive to their normal function (e.g. I was suppose to answer questions to a poll or attend church but instead I stayed home all day to watch porn and even forgot to eat) or something more intense.

I use to attend a church that if someone even looked at porn once a week they'd ask them to go into counseling for porn addiction. So I'm not really buying this poll. *smh*

I actually think this problem would diminish if so many Christians were not such prudes. By this I do not mean that I endorse fornication or adultery. What I mean is that Christians have a definite perfectionistic bent and focus too much on having the Christian appearance. That is that there is very much a "keeping up with the Jone's" going on among them. Moms working, hauling kids to soccer, baking cookies for some activity, and trying to be this image of the perfect little Christian suburban couple. That unfortunately puts a low priority on their physical sexual needs and there is that frustration, so it doesn't surprise me that they would be looking at porn. If they spent more naked time together, I'm sure the problem would be greatly reduced.

EG: I've seen a "couples retreat" advertised from my church denomination. All kinds of worship and information sessions to help them get along better, but nothing about sex, and no time just set aside for fun. Christians are very uncomfortable talking about sex or even admitting that the have sex or enjoy sex. Its sad really. Christianity is seriously messed up in the USA and much of it is barely Christianity at all any more. (Like Joel Olsteen, and his ilk)

I had a ten year head start on pornography before I came to Christ - and kept at it awhile before I matured. It is a bear to remove once it is entrenched - but all things are possible in Christ.

You know it's wrong - but it is a shameful habit to admit. It absolutely ruins intimacy within a marriage since you pretty much handle your sexual urges alone instead of with your partner according to God's design.

The turning point for me was praying and confessing to God my sin and weakness and thanking Him for His Son dying for my sins - and expressing a desire to repent, even though it wasn't always successful. This was done immediately after I looked at pornography when the Holy Spirit convicted me - every time. God knows what I am doing - no need to hide from Him. If I can't deal honestly with God - what good is power of Christ to me?

Scripture memory is also helpful. 1 Cor. 6:18, 1 Thess 4:3-4, Job 31:1... but you must have the desire to want to break away. You must sell your mind that it is better to be without pornography - and honestly, that's a hard sell because the flesh loves to be satisfied. It truly becomes a Spirit versus flesh (Romans 8) battle, and your mind is the battleground.

On YouTube - there's a group called P4CM (Passion for Christ Ministries) and they have confessions from people who have turned from various vices - pornography included. They can be encouraging also.

My point in posting this is to give encouragement to any who have this issue in their lives. My wife is aware of what I was doing, yet we are still married going on 20 years next year. It is possible to be victorious over pornography, but it is tough. It think it's tough because...

1 Corinthians 6:18
- ...Every other sin that a man commits is outside the body, but the immoral man sins against his own body.

... meaning that sexual sins effect us differently than other sins - therefore they are tougher to overcome. Ultimately God has the final say and if you want to be free from pornography, He is the way, and the truth, and the power to be victorious.

Couldn't rep DROB4JC yet.

As some have mentioned, the key is looking at Him. I've heard it preached that when in times of temptation, confess "I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus". Stake your claim and take the land.

I believe most single Christian men, struggle with pornagraphy. If you're single, you can't go to your spouse to have relations with one another, so the pull is all the more stronger. Yet if we are trying to live the Christian life on the body's strength, it's assured we are to fail. This life is impossible to live on our own strength, God never asked us to do that anyway.

The power is in our born again spirit. That is where Christ's nature resides, also the power to overcome the world. In order to operate in that power, you must change your mind. (And there is a 1,000+ years of wrong teaching we have to navigate through) Yet let it begin with this. Boast about your weakness. If the weakness is lust, boast about how weak you are in this area. The reason why, is because this will be the area where Christ's strength shines the most. This is the area where God's grace is superabounding. So when you are successful in overcoming the temptation in that area, and it really doesn't matter how often the enemy pokes your body in the area where you are most weak, you know for sure it was Jesus' strength and not your own.

This is a whole new way of thinking right here, to be able to have pride in your weaknesses. I mean, who's going to boast about their porn addiction? This is what it means to renew your mind in Christ.

Folks porn addiction is serious and matters our spiritual life. There is nothing wrong in looking it once in a while with your partner, but to be addicted to porn is a serious condition. It means the enemy-the devil had found a way to control us. The good thing is that we have that blood to call on and we should draw on the help of our fellow Christians to pray with us. From practical experience, a guy seeking to get out of addiction will assemble four sisters one of which must be a virgin to pray for him. The prayer should start after a fruit fast or dry fast, typically 12hour or 6 hour fast. The four candidates represent the 4 different corners of the world. The brother will kneel surrounded by the four. He starts by confessing his sins and pleading for forgiveness through the blood. The sisters take their turn to pray for him and the last prayer is offered by the virgin. After the prayer, the virgin makes pronouncements setting him free from his addiction. The four of them gather and lift up the brother and if there is food, they can all commune together because it is a wonderful day for the prodigal brother. A day to welcome him back to the fold of Gods people.

For a female, you need three men and a virgin male with exactly same format.

Peace, in the name and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ! Amen!

This is one of the strangest posts I've ever seen in the Religion forums. Is there any evidence that having a virgin pray for you while you starve has any role in the cure of pron addition?
