This is not a discussion about Homosexuality being right or wrong, natural or not.

How do you, or do you plan to when it comes up, explain to your children (11-13) what "Gay" and "homosexual" means since it is being discussed so much on TV and radio these day's?

Being a Christian I know we must teach them that it is a sin. But when they see popular people and politicians claiming it is ok to practice such a sin we must counter this false teaching with God's truth.

Have any of you had the experience of dealing with this yet?

We taught our children that we are to follow Christ's two greatest commandments - to love the Lord God with all our hearts, and to love our neighbors as we love ourselves.

In concordance with that we tried to teach them to focus on loving all, treating everyone with compassion, how to have a sense of fair play and empathy for anyone struggling.

By doing all of this we helped shape and form their conscience'es. We reinforced to them that when your conscience bothers you it is because you know you have not acted in a loving manner to either God, yourself or your neighbor - you have sinned.

We also taught them that we are all sinners and that no one sin is worse than any other therefore we are all in need of God's mercy and forgiveness at various times in our lives. Because we believe God is so gracious is giving that mercy and forgiveness we encouraged them to be merciful and forgiving too.

Jesus said, "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone".

We did not teach our children to cast stones, at anyone.

We've explained that some men like to date men, and some women like to date women. We've told them God doesn't want that, and it's a sin.

I just stated this many times to my children, as I also addressed it in the church. God created man for woman and woman for man. Anything else is rebellion against God, contrary to God's will and outside the kingdom of God, unless they repent. I also clearly show the relevant scripture texts and that makes it abundantly clear.

Pretty much this.

Not much different than discussing adultery, sex before marriage, pornography etc.

Unless they've been living in a cave, kids that age could probably explain it to YOU.

We have added that there are lots of sins in this world, that everyone sins, and the sins that each of us must be most concerned about are our OWN.

We as Christians, whether parents or not, have to deal with the sin of homosexuality the same way we deal with any sin. How do we treat the sin of lying, when all the politicians do it? How do we deal with the sin of theft, when it's glorified on TV? How do we deal with the sin of idolatry (particularly the idolatry of evolution) when encouraged by all manner of media and persons? How do we deal with the sin of fornication when it's glamorized by Hollywood and other media? We deal with the sin of homosexuality as we would any other sin, but teaching them what the Scriptures have to say about it.
