In my life I have known Christians I love to be around, and others I would avoid. The ones I avoid, the best way I would describe is trying to be holier than everyone. They are the ones who want to know if a person is Christian, before they even want to know the person.

I think that one reason some Christians aren't nice is that they feel they have to be perfect. They carry a heavy burden. From what I know, Jesus was supposed to have taken that burden off of people, right?

Why is it that love is supposed to be so important, yet it seems that a lot of Christians don't know how to be nice? I think I have part of the answer, but I want to know what you all think.

This isn't meant to be a trap. I love my Christian parents.

The thing is, there are ALL KINDS of Christians, and they are all in different places in their faith journey

Those who are further along have a deeper appreciation and understanding for how they are called to live and treat their fellow man. Others just haven't gotten there yet.

Being a Christian is mostly just being a work in progress.

Few have actually reached the pinnacle, which would be to live as closely mirroring Christ as possible.

So don't despair! Try instead to exhibit and live the behaviors you know a Christian should, and you may be the inspiration for some other Christian to do better themselves!

Simple, IMO. Because Christians, like everyone else, are human. I don't think it's a Christian problem, just a human problem. I think most people would be nicer if they truly looked into their own spirituality, whether it be Christian, Jewish, Hindu, whatever.

I have noticed this too. Sadly in my experiences it's been the senior members of the church, that sometimes act this way. They only want to fellowship with other senior members, when they should be providing an example of how a Christian should act. When a newer member joins the church and sees this, it gives off a feeling of why would I want to be like this guy? Is this how Christians act? I used to wonder why Christians are often dealt a bad name, but since joining the church, I see why. Don't get me wrong, in my experience I have had very good fellowship with other members of the church, and truly enjoy being a Christian. It seems as if some Christians forget the simple principles of the faith, which is to be as Christ-like as possible. Christ discipled those close to Him, and fellowshiped with them as well, but His main emphasis was on saving the worst of the worst, and making sure all saw the beauty of the faith. If more senior members would just fellowship a little bit more, with younger members, it would go along way. U can preach and teach it all u want, but walking the walk is priceless. Like someone once told me "A good Christian should never have to tell another they're a Christian"

why are so many christains ignorant? absoulutely because of different walks, different lessons to learn, sadly like most lambs to the slaughterhouse dont often grab hold of the ideal of unity, often we face impractical beleivers who are contentious in spirit, and only look forward to the salvation christ promises, while being very much like a pharase, JC's arch nemesis, who would travel land and sea to make a convert, to make 10 times a son of hell, while putting heavy loads on others, while not using a pinky to lift the load. Christians can be the most self obsessed people the world knows to DATE, ive recieved more charity for my fellow 'antheist' then i have from fellow 'brothers and sisters and mothers' and i cant go around most 'faith bearing' christians for fear of persecution as of if im living life Christ like enough, as if a pupil should each his master. Christ. Help us.

Why do people have to be the most Christian? Why not mellow out and just be one of mankind without having to stand out?

Sometimes it seems like it's a "who's Christianest of the Christians" contest.

The world would be a better place if everyone tried that!

I probably should say, I'm atheist, but someone else's religion never stopped me from caring about them as a person if they treat me with respect. I'm a 50-year old guy who has for the most part seen non-religious people being the kindest. I don't pretend to know it all, and I don't enjoy being around people who do make that pretense.

For me, part of being a Christian is showing the love of God to everyone I meet.

Believe me, I have been around judgmental "Christians"......For years I was in a church that judged me on EVERYTHING. It took a while to realize that THAT was not God's love, it was their flesh projecting their own sin judgements onto me.....many of them were, to be quite honest, hypocrites.....I'm not going to "judge" their relationship with God, but for me....God WANTS me to show his LOVE to others, pray for them.....NOT judge because we ALL have sin and no one is perfect in this life.

The ONE thing I have learned (through myself and through others) is that you will never be a witness or be able to lead someone to Christ if you project a mean spirit, or judgement.....sure, the thought of going to hell should be scary.....but really, people need to know about God's LOVE for us, and what he can do in your lives. You can Bible beat someone over the head all you want, but for someone who is LOST that will NOT win them to Christ.

I know you are an Atheist, but believe me.....I have seen GOD open doors and do things this past week I did not even know was possible. I have seen him answer prayer, after prayer, after tearful prayer.
