I know, we all love the church we attend. But once in a while something is bound to happen that makes the skin crawl. Ever gone home thinking, "I ain't going back." Maybe it was something said from the pulpit. Maybe someone looked at you crossways. Maybe someone wears the most obnoxious smelling after shave. Maybe something as petty as babies crying while their mothers are seemingly unaware. I know no one wants to say something bad about their church. So, I'll get the ball rolling.

I dread the holidays. It means more music. Don't get me wrong, I love church hymns, especially the Christmas ones. Silent night. Joy To The World. Away In A Manger. Hark! The Herald Angels Sing. They are beautiful. The problem is my singing isn't.

I couldn't hold a tune in a suitcase. I know it. My family knows it. Anyone who's been in our church through one hymn knows it. So, why do people still turn around and glare? Would they rather I keep my mouth shut? Lip-sync? Wear duct tape? Have my vocal cords severed? Change religions?

My advice to those with unending glares;you're remembered in my prayers.

Screaming children lands pretty high on my list, but it's livable. Everything else generally slides off of me. I think the only thing that has led me to literally hope for illness was attempting (and mostly failing miserably) a particularly difficult class of 12, 13 and 14 year olds in Sunday School. What is it about that age?

I hate the crowds. Call it agoraphobia.

There a person who was chanting out of key during the worship songs , which was annoying and I felt like leaving , but I go believe that a elder and the usher took him aside , and told him to keep it down , as it can be hazardous in the spirit if Christians divide against anyone which is witchcraft or rebellion . .. People were praying for the man , and the man did keep is down last time he was there in church ............. Other times is people who power clap their hands close to here , which is hard to accept .............Other things are people dosing off during the message , and the leaders complaining about it instead of praying for cleansing in the spirit to keep dosing spirits out of the church .............. Other things are the preacher , preaching enmity against other doctrines in other church and not praying for anyone the preacher dislikes ,............. Then there is the communion of the Lord which can be watered down , and a fast part of the meeting at the end of the meeting after a hard message and a quick song at the end of the meeting and out the door , which can be as faithless as people are never prepared for communion with the Lord , where it should be mid service and faith with Gods Words should be exercised with faith , still prayer can seem fruitless when correction is needed as Jesus has to get people to change which can take time, even years

Nothing worse than what I call the "prom songs for Jesus". The songs that sound like bad love songs from the 80's but they are inserting Jesus' name instead of your boyfriend/girlfriend. I've always enjoyed sitting in the back pew anyway, so now I just hang out in the lobby for the first 15 minutes until the praise part of the worship is done. Then sneak into my seat in the back row so I don't get irritated by the music.

I use to go to a Pentecost church, I hated that every service had to have the people drop to the ground. It was always what they called the presence of God. I always hated that God showed up when the leader commanded Him to. You think God is in control, then you realize that God is on call for these people. It was worse when there was a guest motivational speaker.

This is known as Praise Music and it's akin to fingernails on the blackboard. It is just godawful stuff. Other things that annoy me?

-- Rambling sermons that include whatever movie or television show the preacher watched last night. Obviously a case of a rush job on the sermon.

-- I don't have a problem with crying babies, although we have a nursery for that. I'm talking about eight- and ten-year-olds who should know better.

-- The Entertainment Disease. You know. Skits. Dancing. The dumbing down of the liturgy.

In my parish the good singers sing out loud. The bad singers lip sync. Many others sing to themselves so the voices don't carry. Never heard anyone out of key. The priests tend to be amazing singers.

OP, keep singing. God gave you a voice and he loves to hear it. You're not there for the gratification of your fellow believers.

I've grown a lot in the past few years, realizing that besides me, there are a bunch of other people in the pews. I used to be one of those complainers. But now as a pastor, I realize that what one person really hates, there might be 4 people that love it, and vice versa. You don't like the music? There may be some folks that loooooooooooooove it and they get all happy and giddy when the holidays come around.

Don't like crying babies? At least mom and dad are in church. I've got people in my congregation that won't come because they don't want to offend anyone when their little one cries. I find that sad. The kids need to learn to sit in church, and it's not good for mom and dad to just not come until their kids are all 5 years and older. We aren't big enough to have a daycare program and childcare.
