According to a news article by Daniel Blake on the website Christian News on Christian Today the Baptist Union Council of Great Britain (BUGB) has issued a statement of apology for its complicity in the transatlantic slave trade.

I think it's foolish, personally. The reason is that it doesn't cost anything, doesn't mean anything, and doesn't change anything.

Honestly, how can I apologize to people who were not involved in something that I wasn't involved in? I could just as well apologize to my friend Tom for the 9/11 attacks on the WTC Towers.

The only meaningful thing I can do is treat my black neighbors and friends like I should treat anybody - with respect and decency.
