Interesting just how much this series still rouses folks to such passions. Frankly, I don't really care whether Rowling had a Christian inspiration while writing the books, or not. I just enjoy reading them. I like her imagination, her settings, the way the characters come of age, the classic battle between good and evil. I was a little dubious when I started the first book, but I soon realized why the kids like it. And, while it may get some children's curiosity going about "real" witchcraft, somehow I seriously doubt that most of them are running around trying to delve into the dark arts. Sometimes, I think we don't give kids enough for credit for having a few brain cells of their own.

I don't mind if people don't want their children to read it. Obviously, as parents and grandparents, we should make the decisions that we consider best and proper for our own. However, what I do object to is these same folks squawling their heads off, trying to get the books out of the libraries, essentially taking on the role of censor for everyone else's family. If they don't want their children to read HP, they have my blessing, and I support them to the hilt. But, do not be telling me whether I should let mine read it, with these attempts at censorship, and/or banning.

And, doggone it, before they go around condemning something that their pastor, Sunday School teacher, and every other Tom, Dick, and Harry is speaking out against, for pity's sake, I wish they would at least read the first book, and make up their own mind! That's what God gave them a brain for, all for their little lonesome. They don't have to rely on someone else's opinion. I get so tired of people condemning/censoring a book that they haven't even read! Not to mention condemning those of us who do read these, and other "satanic" books!

Well, we have had several of these "Harry Potter" threads and it does stir up a stink! At the end of the day, every Christian does have to decide for themselves and their children about this kind of literature. I am not going to pass judgment on Rowling's motivation/inspiration for writing the books. Personally, as I have said many times before on this forum, because of the admonition in Deuteronomy 18 and many other scriptures in the Bible to avoid divination and all forms of the occult, I do not think it's appropriate to even read about occultic activities such as is promoted in Rowling's books.

Hopefully, most Christians are at least aware that the Bible does say to avoid practicing the occult. When I grew up, even though I was born again, I was really ignorant of the fact that the Bible instructs us to avoid such. Consequently, as a teen-ager, I got into several occultic activities just out of sheer ignorance of the Word. I would hope that at least when Christians make decisions regarding the acceptability of these types of books for themselves or their children, they are at least making a decision that is not out of ignorance of the scriptures (like I did as a young believer.)

Not very. She was inspired by the devil to write these books to bring her out of poverty in which she has. She has made a pact with the devil and will pay a awful price for her sins of turning millions toward witchcraft and the occult. No Christian should read, or even think about reading these books if your walking in the spirit.
Wow ! I'll say it again Wow ! Thanks for the laugh though I am trying to ascertain whether I should be weeping with despair ...

And in my opinion, the afternoon soap operas on TV have a much more evil influence on children than the Potter books. And children do watch them.

Since they portray real people doing real things, those stories seem to make all sorts of life styles acceptable.
