HEB 11:1 "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen."

Faith is not alone but rather the evidence you have and will have your spiritual needs [righteousness] and material needs met by God. Faith is the evidence that you have changed because the things not seen are the attributes/substance of God's nature such as wisdom, peace, joy, love, kindness, etc. given to you to use/work with.

Faith comes by Grace which means His ability to change you to one who is Holy and set apart to do the good works that accompany His nature imputed to you. The thief must stop stealing, the fornicator must stop fornicating, and the adulterer must stop putting asunder marriages.

Some may have only one talent at first and some five or ten but all must grow by investing the talent they have. True faith by nature is followed by works or it is dead faith. The unprofitable will be cut off but only if they refuse to cooperate after much fertilization of the heart/spirit. It is written that in these "last days" there will be a great falling away from the faith that has substance.

As King David said, "My soul is in my hands." In other words God gives Grace for our will to be engaged for the Kingdom of God sake but we can sleep and slumber away our salvation as the five virgins found out when they ran out of oil for their lamps.

Ok, what do you want me to argue with, I'll give it a try. If we agree, it'll be a real short chat. Like this....

"OK". See? Disagreeing is much more fun.

Rom 10:17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

I think it's more apropo to say, "The thief will no longer sin, the fornicator will no longer.. the adulterer will no longer.... because the way above, hints that the person is doing the stopping.

Scripture says HE stops us from doing it.

if someone tries to do it themselves, the harder they work, the more they get in God's way.

That was not the intent of my meaning. The way I said it would be more like a sermon to unbelievers that they must repent and believe the Gospel to be saved. Salvation will bring about a stoppage but repentance means to count the cost as in Christ will change your nature so that you will no longer desire to live in sin.

I love you guys - this board is so much better than it used to be.

You're right - a preacher throwing down fire and brimstone only persuades through emotion and fear - none of which are true spiritual conversions. Once they stumble, they're looking at themselves again because that's what made them want change - but now they see "christianity" as a failed experiment.

Because you have to give people the good news.

Rom 10:17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

That is true but not the only way you can say how faith comes by. Hearing in itself does not produce faith [not all who hear believe] but rather faith is produced by/through Grace when He calls. Faith is the mechanism so to speak but grace is the power behind faith to save/to make faith work.

ACTS 18:27 "And when he was disposed to pass into Achaia, the brethren wrote, exhorting the disciples to receive him: who, when he was come, helped them much which had believed through grace."

EPH 2:8 "For by grace are you saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:"

It is OK to say it both ways!

Faith is a virtue of a worship of Spirit and truth of God , which is the confidence in the Lord , but to receive from God , believers still need to go to Gods Word and know God and even know a promise which God promised , ...Believers need to have the Spirit of God on their life through the righteousness of Jesus Christ , with the exception of new converts , as Jesus Spirit knows all peoples names and spirits through out the world just and unjust , but can only answer from His and new repentant converts ........ Expectation of hope is also a virtue of God and is need to receive grace from God , .....Then there is a point of contact , or seed for expectation to stand on for Jesus promises to be answered , as believers knock, seek, ask through their prayers with faith in the confidence , as Holy Spirit will judge all prayer to be answered ..... So if you can get all that then you will have the wisdom of the ages to act and receive grace from God

Faith is confidence, trust, belief, fear, honor, glory, thanksgiving, respect and love all for God above all other things and people of the creation. That is our relationship is first with God. The reason we do what we do is because of our love and confidence in God's love, mercy, goodness, forgiveness, wisdom, honesty, truthfulness, mercy, goodness and faithfulness.

I hope that helps.

If you don't have faith, it is the faith giver's fault.
