Because those who believed the gospel of peace and believed upon the the prince of peace were rejected by those of their own house. Jesus experienced this himself.

a man's enemies will be the members of his own household

A prophet is not without honor, except in his hometown and among his relatives and in his own household

The peace from God is only for those who listen and obey in the spirit , God can quicken peace in the unsaved world , and is universal for all , and if they obey the quicken there will be peace ....Where as followers of Christ learn to obey a righteous quicken , as the bonus is there from God ........... Still the world is under the spiritual authority of the kingdom of darkness where these spirit will lead people away from God and His purpose ...God knows the windows of opportunity as He will answer the prayers of His children and will quicken peace and answers to problems in the world to the world , and when they receive , cleansing peace can come ....

Could it be that the Jesus who walked earth was a man of His own day? That His "human" perception, like many of the messiahs that roamed Judea during the same time frame, was that overthrow of foreign rule and the Sanhedrin would eventually come down to an uprising? Sell your cloak and buy a sword?

And He really was prophetic in that respect. The Jews never recovered their nation after the Roman massacres until they "picked up the sword" in 1949 and engaged in some wholesale slaughter of their "brothers," the Palestinians.

Jesus' belief in a peaceful government was most likely tracks very closely to the Muslims of today. A government run by God.

You can accept that viewpoint only by having equal emphasis on Jesus as the Son of Man as with emphasis on Him as the Son of God. He was a man of His time, and communicated to His followers in a way that they would understand. Emphasis on Jesus' divinity has stolen away the understanding of Him as a man.

The Messiah (Yeshua) came the first time as a 'Suffering Servant,' and the 'Holy Lamb of GOD.' His mission was not only to pay the price for our sins (death), but also to impart 'Words of Life' to 'Those who could hear' them; that is to say, those whose hearts wanted to hear them.

When Yeshua said that He came to bring 'Not peace but a sword,' He was talking about the sword of division His Words would cause, dividing believers from unbelievers (typified as sheep (believers - teachable people) and goats (unbelievers - stubborn and rebellious people)).

He was then and will always be The Prince of Peace though.

Reading the surrounding Scriptures and/or employing an interlinear translation is extremely helpful when studying Scripture, as is prayer.

Shalom Aleichem,

Mahrie.
