When I first started to question Christianity I believed that the followers of Jesus when he was alive had a much better idea of what religion is supposed to be than the interpretation of the Bible by either myself or my religious leaders.
I then considered joining Islam, but that, too, felt incorrect.
Then I realized that I'm an inferior soul that has no idea of the truth and will probably end up in hell, or worse. After that I thought about Buddhism and how similar outlooks at the spiritual realm would be really nice and at times make sense, but I still couldn't have 100% faith in them.
...This realization made me think that the actual reality of the spiritual truth is much darker and that the solution to that reality is probably just as dark.
...But that conclusion is just as incomplete as the rest without *ANY* knowledge of the spiritual realm.
Coming to terms that I am an inferior soul has been very difficult for me, but not all souls are made perfect, I guess.
That said, how did Jesus preach his religion? Sometimes, I think the answer to that question would remove certain doubts, but, alas, I have neither the luxury of having faith, being alive at the same time as a prophet, nor having access to sacred documents of the archives of a church.
I pray daily for Wisdom and Knowledge and guidance.
The Father gave us his Word, the Way. The bible is God's plan for man, past, present, and future.
Begin reading and studying, it will take time, give yourself a couple of years to get through it.
I suggest that you divorce yourself from any religion or doctrine and simply study.
Grace is the Father revealing himself to you, his Mercy is his patience with you as you study and gain knowledge. You do the work let him do the rest.
Like I said, I don't trust myself, nor other men to have the correct interpretation of what the Bible is supposed to be.
What I do wish to have is a more complete account of what Jesus taught to his followers in his life time. Unfortunately I do not have access to such accounts.
Jesus did not teach religion. In fact, everytime he was persecuted, Jesus was either in the synagogue, leavening it , or dealing with the leaders of it.

You have the same information available to you that any of us have. There is no transcript per se.
Understanding comes by way of work. There is no other means.

Do not be distracted by those who use a Gatling gun to pepper you with words and phrases from hither and yon to make their cases. It is ALL about the message of Jesus. Plain and simple.
Be right with god. Be right with your fellow humans. Eternal life is yours! It's THAT simple!

Go with the Sermon on the Mount of Olives and the Be-attitudes... i.e. "blessed are the poor in spirit, the meek, the peacemakers, etc...." Those are some of the things Jesus taught. He also said "FEAR NOT" quite a bit and told us to become as little children.
Jesus tells us that God our father counts as pure and faultless is this, to look after widows and orphans in their distress, and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. James 1:27
Seems pretty simple to me... but it is easy to say and hard to do.
Certainly Jesus was making a point about caring for those whose hearts and spirits are suffering. A widow who is rich and beautiful certainly wouldn't need money but her spirit would be injured for the love she has lost. I'm an orphan, but my parents died after I was an adult, and I already had a good life... so I didn't need "stuff", but my heart still hurt.
Yes... maybe widows and orphans need financial assistance and stuff but I suspect their hearts and spirits are what we should look after as well as our own.
