I just got this in my e-mail, I thought it was appropriate for this thread.
Politically Correct Christmas Poem
'Twas the month before Christmas when all through our land,
Not a Christian was praying nor taking a stand.
Why the PC Police had taken away,
The reason for Christmas - no one could say.
The children were told by their schools not to sing,
About Shepherds and Wise Men and Angels and things.
It might hurt people's feelings, The teachers would say
December 25th is just a 'Holiday'.
Yet the shoppers were ready with cash, checks and credit
Pushing folks down to the floor just to get it!
CDs from Madonna, an X BOX, An I-pod
Something was changing, something quite odd!
Now Daschle, Now Darden, Now Sharpton, Wolf Blitzen
On Boxer, on Rather, on Kerry, on Clinton !
At the top of the Senate, there arose such a clatter
To eliminate Jesus, in all public matter.
And we spoke not a word, as they took away our faith
Forbidden to speak of salvation and grace
The true Gift of Christmas was exchanged and discarded
The reason for the season, stopped before it started.
So as you celebrate 'Winter Break' under your 'Dream Tree'
Sipping your Starbucks, listen to me.
Choose your words carefully, choose what you say
Shout MERRY CHRISTMAS, not Happy Holiday!

Exactly my thoughts...

I don't see the need to exclude people to what should be a joyous festivity.

All these *holidays* are there because of Christ. If you dont believe in CHRIST why do you celebrate the Holidays? I mean what do you celebrate then? Cant be Christs Birth? Explain this to me!
We are NOT excluding anyone..we welcome all faiths at our Christmas,

You deserve poiints for this one ! 100% Agreed !
I want to say here, that this Parade was always the Christmas parade, its always had the Christmas Carolers, Christmas Sales (blehh) Everything was ALWAYS called and themed Christmas. NOW this year because of the SCHOOL's there they changed the Parade too * HOLIDAY* parade.. but they left the
Christmas Concert
Christmas Carolers
Christmas Rides
Christmas Sales
Chrismas treats

When Christians become the only people who pay taxes then I'm guessing the "Christmas Parade" will come back in full force. Until then, if the parade is put on by the city using tax payer money then more than likely it will be called a "Holiday Parade".
I'm wondering how many would be upset if the city used tax payer funds to have an "atheist parade".
Now.. if the organizers of the parade want to pay for their own security etc and not use any city funds except for use of the road (which I'm sure they would be entitled to) then they can probably call it a "Christmas Parade"..
JMO though..

You said it so well, dojilynn.
If my town was having a Channukah Celebration, or Kawanza Parade, I'd have no problem with it. Even if they were held with taxpayers' money. I certainly wouldn't ask for it to be changed to "Holiday Celebration". Why should I be threatened by a non-Christian celebration?
That's just ridiculous.
There's absolutely no good argument for it.
Why isn't anyone trying to change the Gay Parade to "People of all Sexual Orientation Including But Not Limited to: Bisexuals, Lesbians, and Gay Men Parade"? Personally I'm offended by the "gay" title. I'm not gay and it makes me feel excluded.
I have an idea, let's just do away with the Memorial Day Parade. We certainly don't want to offend any anti-war people. We don't need a Thanksgiving Day Parade either. Those poor turkeys - slaughtered every year for a silly holiday. Let's not offend PETA, or vegans.
I mean really, it's absurd. Calling it a Christmas Parade is not excluding anyone from attending. It's just the REASON FOR THE PARADE.
Christmas is not about spending time with family, as someone else mentioned. It's about the birth of our Savior. Go ahead and make it what you want for your family but don't ask that it be watered down for you.

Maybe it is a cost thing.. three different parades, triple the costs.
Maybe a "Holiday" parade is all encompassing.

These holidays are not there because Jesus wanted them there. They are installed by the politicians or the government.
When I celebrate Christmas I celebrate being with my friends & family.
When I celebrate a Muslim holiday (which often is not a national holiday) I celebrate being with my friends & family.
When I celebrate our Queen's birthday (which is a national holiday) I celebrate being with my friends & family.
I don't give a damn about the queen, but I sure am glad to have a day off to spend with the people that I love.
I guess I don't need faith to be tolerant and have a good time with the people I love.
