Is it OK to say the word satan (for example: when discussing a bible story) or is that invoking him?
If not, how do your refer to satan?
The term Satan, merely describes an adversarial role or that of adversity;
And an accuser (devil) is known for his unrighteous disposition.
In other words, a contentious person who causes strife, can be an adversary.
And a person who makes false accusations is nothing less, than that of a liar.
Since The Bible mentions Satan as being a real being, I am left to assume that Satan is a fallen angel who wanted God's authority for himself and set himself against Yahweh God with war in Heaven sometime before the created universe as we know it was created. As Mike mentioned two scriptures, One in Job where Satan comes before God to discuss Job, and in Revelation where Satan is mentioned as a great dragon. That does not describe a human to me, but someone from an alternate reality known as either Heaven or Hell. I can say Satan's name and He cannot have control of me for Christ died for me and I accepted Him as my Savior
It's not a real person. It's a fable. It's a not a name either. It's a title or position it means the accuser.
In fact Ha-Satan meaning The Satan was one of the according to the Bible one of "The Sons of God". It was a job of the Satan to tempt humans. He was under the orders of god like all the other angelic beings.
He wasa da biga tool...HaSatan= adversary, tempter, tester...A metaphor for the fleshly desires...
