The first persecutions began fairly shortly after Christians began asserting that Jesus was the Messiah (see the stoning of Stephen in Acts 7) and officially ended with the Edict of Milan in 313 C. E. at least for a time. There were some later persecutions by later emperors and several by the Roman Catholic Church (they called them "heretics" though)

This will help you.
Excerpt:

Persecution of the Roman Empire
The defining moment in the life of the primitive church came after the first true Roman persecution under Nero that led to the execution of the apostles Peter and Paul (circa 62-64 A.D.) followed shortly thereafter by the seige of Jerusalem and the destruction of the Temple. Would this small movement survive?

For the next 250 years the Christian church endured periods of persecution at the hands of the Roman empire. It is important to realize that Roman persecution of Christians came in waves, tended to be regional in nature, and typically did not last more than a couple of years.

Have you thought about actually doing the assigned reading yourself? Or are you comfortable with having people do your homework for you?

Hiw long did it last? It has hnever stopped. Go to the middle east and whip out your bible and see how fast you end up in jail. You could even argue we are persecuted right here in the US.

Mike555: So we can say it began with the execution of Peter and Paul (circa 62-64 A.D), and it lasted for 250 years. When did Christendom become state religion in Rome? Was it 380 or 395 ? Thanks

In Acts 12 says that King Harold had James brother of John killed because he saw that it pleased the Jews , as this was the first Apostle to be killed ...... Still Jesus was the first Christians to be persecuted and He warned many follower to not confess Christ in public as they would be kicked out of the temple ..........Still wonder who this king Harold from Acts 12 was since Harold the King passed away when Jesus was ten year old and the land of Judah had governors from Rome in control ...

Persecution began with blood Sacrifices, which is still prevalent today.

Different Harod. Herod the great died when Jesus was a boy but his grandson who became kind was named after him (Herod Agrippa) lived until about 44AD. This is the king Herod referred to in Acts 12
