Just remember - no one thinks the Lamb of God is a four legged animal, so be careful with making spiritual symbols into things of the flesh.
I think everyone understands that Jesus is not literally a lamb. Just as I'm certain that people don't believe that Jesus is a literal door (John 10:7) attached to a door frame by hinges.
Underlying symbolic language are literal realities however. For instance, the seven golden lampstands in Revelation 1:12 is symbolic language which refers to the seven churches as stated in Revelation 1:20 with reference to the seven churches of Asia which are addressed in Revelation 2-3.

Absolutely, but there's equally (if not more) symbolism throughout Scripture.
Christ the door for instance. He said, "Narrow is the gate which leads to life", but do people understand what He was saying? The "gate" is a place of judgment that the Israelites were very familiar with, so He used it metaphorically to represent the Law. He is the Door where grace is your righteousness, but if you try to go through the gate, very few (none) will be made righteous through the law.
His entire ministry was about destroying man's reliance on works to satisfy God's holiness, yet the ministry of death (the law) is still being displayed in our homes and public courts (if the right wing has their way). Why don't we pull them down and replace them with John 3:16 (and 17)?
Everything in Revelation (Apocalypse) has already happened since it was written circa 69-70 CE to warn Christians in Jerusalem to flee the destruction about to occur. For example you will find the "prophecy" of "five kings are fallen, one is, one shall come but he must remain for only a short time, etc" was perfectly "fulfilled in the history of the Roman emperors up to the destruction of Jerusalem"
When was this about Jesus, fulfilled?:
". . . . . and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, . . . "(Zec.12:10)?

Dear byte,
And who were the 10 horns of the 8th head of the beast? And when did the Lamb war against these 10 horns, and the Lamb "overcome them"? (Rev 17:14) And who were the "called" who fought this war with the Lamb? (Rev 17:14)
And who said Revelation was circa 69-70 C.E.? And according to Joel 3:2, when were the "fortunes of Judah and Jerusalem" restored? (Ze 14:14)
