I know many Christians here on Earth who are highly loved, adored and admired by lots of people in this world and I would like for them to enter Heaven, I really wouldn't want them to end up in Hell just for being highly loved and adored here on Earth.

Be right with God. Be right with your fellow humankind. Eternal life is yours.

That is the message of Jesus.

I suggest that if you are right with your fellow humans, you will be liked. QED. What matters is the result, not the trivialities

Every one that is in Christ, remains in Christ and "dies" in Christ has eternal life, the second death has no power over him. To be written in the book of life and not be plotted out guarantees also eternal life. To be liked on this earth or not is not an issue on judgement day. Jesus they crucified and He said we will be hated as He was hated in this world.

someone once told me that if a Christian is being well liked here on Earth they're doing a poor job serving God and that really frightened me.

That is one bizarre belief.

Depends on what he did to be highly loved and adored and who is doing the loving and adoring.

Rarely is a conscientious, uncompromising Christian "highly loved and adored" by the standards of the world in general.

Some conscientious, uncompromising Christians might achieve a high degree of respect in the world, such as Billy Graham and Mother Theresa...but even they are not universally "loved and adored" by the world by any means (and some would argue whether they are conscientious and uncompromising even to have gained the world's respect.

But a Christian ought to be loved by other Christians--and that might form a fairly large group, depending on the scope of his Christian endevours.

Some fundamentalists are pretty bizarre people, and believe bizarre things. Be right with God. Be right with your fellow humans. Nothing else matters, despite what the crazy people may say.

Proverbs says a good name is to be chosen then fine riches but we got Luke 6:26 encouraging
modesty with honor received.

If that's not enough we got Matthew 10:34-37 for confirmation.
