This is just my opinion on what circumcision is all about and all are welcome to give their own take on this subject.

In the Old Testament it refers to circumcision as a ceremony that removed the foreskin from the penis. I believe that this was a symbolic reference of things to come.

True circumcision is of the heart, a cutting away of what is bad and an unveiling of what is good. When Jesus came forth he came to set an example and unveil the truth about God.

It was an unveiling of WHERE God is--within us.

An unveiling of WHO God is--the head and dominant one of all mankind, the masculine counterpart to the submissive/female of Him(US).

An unveiling of WHAT God is--love, truth and wisdom that came forth within ONE of flesh. The Father came forth and walked among man, spoke to us through the face of Christ, declared that He was in all of us.
Jesus was an example of how we are to be to EACH OTHER and how to honor the Father by our actions.

WHY did He come forth to unveil Himself?---because some were using the Bible as a book of judges and setting themselves up within His temple to rule as if they were God (devils and demons). He came forth to set us free from the wrong judges--He took our sins away and said that if we loved Him we would love each other knowing that He is the temple(our bodies) and one with our souls.

He also said that for Him to honor these things we would have to be AS HE IS FIRST---all forgiving of the short comings, mistakes and sins of others. If we would stop causing pain and fear to others and ruling over them with these things then He would remove those things from among us.

We were to have a circumcision of the heart. From the beginning a destroyer has been upon us--the more pain and fear we cause, the more that is added upon us in an attempt to create compassion, empathy, etc. and allow us to be able to see how to place ourselves in another man's shoes.

We so need to clear our eyes and focus upon INTENT and then FOCUS our lives towards service and administering to those who need it without judging whether they are worthy of our love, time or money. If someone is not coming against us physically we really have no excuses. Who is not against me is for me.

To me circumcision could also be the rapture that so many are expecting--the cutting away of the bad, the revealing of He Himself as among us already, the changing of our bodies without us leaving--only the bad should go, the changing of the Earth itself to fit the new creations, etc. The promised wings to meet him with the saints--lovely thoughts. He said that all this would come to pass AFTER all had been taught WHERE He is--HERE.

Physical circumcision is an outward covenantal sign of being set apart to the Lord, while circumcision of the heart is metaphorical for the other inward sign of the Holy Spirit in the faithful believer. There is much more that can be said on this topic.

Historically, circumcision was a ritualistic symbolic act that marked the transformation of a youth into manhood. Nothing more. In fact, it was the Egyptians who first performed circumcision as a sign of purity and cleanliness.

Moses, who was not circumcised, adopted the practice when the Hebrew people fled Egypt. He decreed that circumcision was a part of the Covenant, or part of man’s promise to God. By being circumcised, God ensured the promise of fertility to the Jewish people. Circumcision also served as a tribal sign; without it, one was banished from the tribe, which was certain death while the Jewish people were wandering the desert.

During the early days of Christianity, circumcision was required for all converts, but Paul did not require circumcision. He knew that Christianity would have more appeal to people such as the Greeks and the Romans without it. Besides, Jesus was very clear that His coming did away with Old Testament law and that circumcision was no longer necessary ... baptism replaced circumcision as a more universal ritual for both men and women alike.

Newsboy, what does Matt. 5:17&18 say? Better yet read the whole chapter. Moses didn't adopt it from Egypt. Yahovah gave instructions to Moses about circumcision, and a covenant with the Hebrew people. Read Lev. all instructions are there. Circumcision of the heart, is another story. Baptism replacing circumcision where in the bible does it state that? Baptism is an outward sign that you are following Yeshua/Jesus. Buried with Him in baptism and raised to walk in a newness of life.
