Can there be unity in decisions, in agreement, in cooperative planning for the future? We are meant to be community and united as the church, as Christ is one with G-d. I don't see it being exclusive to merely children (and I have one) but to being united in Christ, as bearers of the covenant of G-d related to marriage. This is supported by the cord of three strands not being easily broken. As it relates to childless persons, I think the marital covenant applied in itself to the couple as a separate entity from either partner is a testimony to others of G-d's unity. Not tearing asunder to me is rendered divorce - G-d hates divorce. While children are frequently used as pawns (see reference to suffering the children and millstones), I don't think it is just about sexual union but about being collaborative and cooperative as a couple. There can be emotional consonance, a separation for prayer and a reunification afterwards, etc.
Maybe I'm ignorant but I think it is broader than simply sexuality and offspring. The union of the couple is a separate entity from me and my partner separately and what we add individually.
Jer what I was showing was that it can be taken literally, I know the spiritual application.
What I was showing is that even science (DNA) backs up a literal understanding of that scripture.

kin I have no problem with it having a wider application then just the immediate family, I just seen how that scripture could be taken literally, I did not expect this many replies to discuss, but it is all good.
