Seeing as ALL of the Founding Fathers were Freemasons that dabbled in witchcraft and all. I would venture to say this country was founded on Masonic prinicples more than Christian ones.
From Washington all the way up to Obama. Freemasons.
Dear One,
As Thomas Jefferson edited his own bible, which excluded Paul, I think he was more in line with being a child of God, rather than being a "Christian".

That is not an accurate representation of the President's remarks. He did NOT say the Muslims built the fabric of the nation. He DID say that there were "contributions of Muslim Americans to building the very fabric of our nation ..."
Rather than depending on a self-proclaimed right-wing site, you can see what the President actually said about Eid-al-Fitr here:
1) What are "Christian Principles"?
2) What are the founding principles of America
then see how they match up.
Christian principles: Belief in a triune God, Jesus died to redeem mankind from sin, we are called to repent, to love one another and to follow the 10 commandments.
American founding principles: self-determination, representative democracy, equality under the law and freedoms listed in the Bill of Rights.
Very little overlap here. The fact that most of the Founding Fathers were Christian doesn't seem relevant. The Founding fathers were all men. Does that mean America was founded on masculine principles?
Jesus didn't seem to have a problem with monarchies, and I don't recall him advocating for freedom of speech and the right to bear arms. Our Constitution is pretty clear that there is no National religion. So what precisely are these Christian Principles that people believe our country was founded on?

Unfortunately, the Christian religion has gotten particularly adept at stealing and hijacking concepts that are not uniquely Christian - morality and the rule of law are two such examples.
Ergo, there are those who actually believe that laws against murder, theft, purgery, and many other criminal laws are uniquely Christian.

Exactly. We have laws that agree with "thou shall not kill" and "thou shall not steal", but murder and theft are illegal in every society. And when was the last time someone was put in jail for taking the Lord's name in vain?
However, saying that America was not founded on Christian principles does not mean that I ignore the influence of Christianity on our country. Even with separation of Church and State a leader cannot help but be influenced by his or her religious background. Whenever there is a humanitarian crisis in the world, America is the first to step in to help, and I have to think that compassionate streak is at least in part due to our Christian background. But it says more about us as a people than us as a Nation.
Fundamentalists to not consider most of these sects to be "Christian". By their strange standards.
