Question Merry Christmas! So what are YOU doing for Christmas?

Merry Christmas and a blessed 2008 to all of you guys! To you guys who do indeed keep Christmas, I wish you and yours a wonderful Christmas day! For those of you who don't, I wish you a wonderfully blessed 2008! May we all grow in our knowledge, love and understanding of Jesus this next year! I feel very blessed to have gotten to "know" many of you this past year.

Anybody care to share your Christmas plans? Do you have any traditions that are part of your Christmas celebration you'd like to share? We will be at my mother's house on Christmas Day and we are having a Christmas gathering at our house for some of my dh's family tomorrow.

So again...the merriest of Christmases from kaykay!

My oldest son loves tacos..Sooo, for about 20 years now tacos have a special place on my Christmas eve buffer of everyones favorites...I don't prepare a big meal on Christmas Eve, just a big variety of hors d'ourves..Most of us love the tiny weiners fixed in the crockpot with grape jelly and bbq sauce..I also have a veggie tray and a cold cut tray and a Hawaiian cheese ball and assorted crackers, etc, etc, etc..I also fix fruit punch in the punch bowl set that has to be 36 years old..The kids put their money together when they were very small and went to a discount store and got it for me

Tamales! My fave! No fair, I'll probably have to eat ham or something like that.. And blue, I love tacos! That could be my main course for Christmas Day, if I had my way, with maybe a few tamales and rice and beans on the side!

We're planning to be with my folks and family on Sunday, have our own family Christmas (wife and I and little ones) on Monday eve, and on Christmas Day be with my Grandparents. New Years be with some family on my mom's side. BTW, what do you all like to do on Christmas gatherings? You all are so much older and more mature than me, but my siblings, and cousins and I love to play some board games, etc. (Settlers of Catan, Monopoly, Farming Game, anyone?) We also love singing, do some of that too. (in the midst of all the eating, visiting, gifts, etc.!)
At Grandpa's we usually have a time where we share some verses, etc about Christmas that are meaningful to us.

Oh blue you simply must give me that recipe for the Hawaiian cheese ball!

Well, our traditions started 20 years ago with the birth of our first son. My parents and dh's parents come a couple days before Christmas and we open gifts to one another and I usually have about what blue has out, just knicknacks to eat and might bake a ham for sandwiches or make tuna salad or chicken salad and fruit and cheese and crackers etc. Someone will read the Christmas story and we reflect on what wonderful everlasting gift Jesus gave to us, and the true meaning of Christmas, and the meaning of the gift giving, Christmas tree and star on top. I wanted my children to understand that this was a Holy day and not a commercial/materialistic day.

Christmas Eve is pretty much quiet with just my dh and I and the kids, and up until this year, both boys were home, now the oldest has moved out, so first Christmas morning without him, hmmm...the youngest will get up and then wake us up. We will watch him open the few presents that are under the tree. I will make biscuits and fry country ham. Again, each set of parents will come by and visit and eat. Then we have a quiet day together as a family as the grandparents are off to visit the other grandchildren. We play games, watch a movie together, nap and just cozy up together. Simply wonderful.

I have always loved the fact that we can have this type of Holiday. I feel very lucky to have both sets of parents who live close by and do the visiting on Christmas morning. It has meant in the past that my children could play with thier gifts without having to go here and there to visit. They simply enjoyed the day. This is something that was always really important to me and still is although they are 14 and 20.

Reminds me of my mother, blue. She used to cater to my son who was such a picky eater! She always made sure he had his faves of macaroni n' cheese and chicken nuggets on Christmas!
