Think about it. Jesus commanded us to gouge out our eyes and cut off our limbs if they cause us to sin! How can anyone believe that such an extreme measure is not to avoid something even worse!
"If your right hand makes you stumble, cut it off and throw it from you; for it is better for you to lose one of the parts of your body, than for your whole body to go into hell." (Matt. 5:30)

Yes, Gehenna is translated as hell and so is Hades. Jesus warned about being cast into Gehenna, which was a very disgraceful thing for a Jew to experience. It is not referring to an eternal hell. God bless.

Have you done that yet? Know anyone who has?
I've yet to see a string of hand-less, eye-less people enter a Bible-believing church.
Beats the hell out of me. I'm glad you said "many Christians" and not just "Christians" because there are also "many Christians" who don't believe that nonsense.

And there was also a simple solution to ensure your devotion in the book of Revelation: beheading.
That's right, folks! With a simple beheading you could assure your eternity with Jesus! And you wouldn't have to fight against those pesky Roman tyrants anymore.
Hell: This seems to be the one thing that you can't mess with for many Christians. You can say almost anything about the practice of the faith. How to behave. How to treat people. Should you love a certain person. Etc. Because those things are not important. They hold no significance. Ethical rules have no bearing one way or another on their faith.
The real important thing is the suffering of all nonbelievers. It seems that if you question that then you have really crossed a line in what they value and cherish and hold close their hearts.
Why do Christians seem to like the idea of Hell so much?
First of all it is not an idea. It is found in the bible and Jesus preached it. I never was ever in my life confronted with hell as much as I came to CD. Ur makes it a thread wereever they can. They seem to be obsessed. I agree with you. To walk in the light and in the Spirit of the love of God is more important.

The bible is very specific. Hell is not eternal, the lake of fire is, where hell is cast into.
I don't believe that the lake of fire is eternal either. It is related to the ages, according to literal translations. Thanks and God bless.
