What pagans did applies to pagans. Why and how do you decide that it must apply to what Christians do? You simply ignore the intent of the celebrants and impose your nonsense about what pagans did.
This is complete nonsense. I doubt you can find a single Christian who intends to celebrate pagan gods or solstices instead of Christ.
Of course you haven't and jerseygal hasn't either. Christians are celebrating Christ's birth because that is what they INTEND to celebrate. I repeat:

You are NOT listening. We cannot INCORPORATE ANYTHING into our celebrations or worship that we do NOT INTEND to incorporate!!!! No matter what nonsense you think you understand from the writings of our ignorant ancient ancestors . . . the simple and unavoidable fact of the matter is that we can NOT celebrate or worship anything we DO NOT INTEND to celebrate or worship, period!! Try to comprehend this rather simple truth!

Thank you for agreeing with me. Men incorporated pagan things into Christmas KNOWINGLY. They intended to.
They ignored God and today's ignorant people just don't care, making them as ignorant as man of long ago. In fact there are more people ignorant today than at any time in history, when it comes to God's word. They just accept out of ignorance and have fun.

Now you are just being annoying. You know that there can be nothing pagan about the celebration or worship if the celebrants or worshipers do NOT INTEND to celebrate or worship anything pagan . . . no matter what the origins are of anything! This idea that you can inadvertently be celebrating or worshiping pagan things or idols or symbols is preposterous! We always know exactly what we are celebrating or worshiping and why.
You know, all this discussion about December 25th and it really being Saturnalia is nothing more than pedantic navel gazing.
I mean, seriously, so what? There were no health departments in Roman Palestine at the time, so there is no birth certificate for Jesus. Yes, while it is quite possible that Christ was born in July, it's still a pointless debate. The church fathers chose the date, so that's when it is celebrated.
Dear cpg,
Actually the date was set at the Council of Nicaea, in the year 325 AD. The council was convened by the emperor Constantine, who was also the head of the pagan church. The reasoning for the Council of Nicaea was to consolidate his empire through the unification of the pagan and other sects. Constantine was the beast with two horns like a lamb, who was to deceive "those who dwell on the earth" (Rev 13). The two Christ like horns like a lamb, in which he glorified by building basilicas for each, were Peter and Paul. The two shepherds of Zechariah 11, who were to pasture the "flock doomed to slaughter" (Ze 11:7). The "Christian" church is noting more than a false religion founded on the small stone (petros). The actually foundation stone, petra, was nailed to the cross of false teachings.

Please provide credible documentation that the date of Christmas was established at the council of Nicaea. Also that unification of pagan sects was a goal. Also that settling a theological dispute among Christians (a very small minority at the time) would consolidate the empire.
