Are there multiple "Commandments?" I know of the Ten Commandments, but I thought I saw a list that was more than 10 and were called "Commandments."

Many thanks.

Sure. There are fifteen. I saw Moses ( in the Mel Brooks movie ) walking down from Mt Sinai with three tablets each containing five commandments.
Moses proclaimed " THE FIF..... ( slipped and dropped one tablet ) The TEN COMMANDMENTS!"
And therin lies our problems

I think there are other commands, i.e. Jesus said go and spread the Good News throughout the earth. In regards to the "Ten Commandments". Jesus also speaks of the greatest commandment. (Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your sole and with all your mind.) If we truly obey this first commandment we will obey all the commandments. Our heart represents our desires, our sole represents our life (sole is closely related to breath) and the mind represents the way we think. Therefore if all our desires, if life and thoughts are totally commited to loving God we would be in obdience to all commandments.

The Torah contains 613 commandments, or mitzvot.

Yup. Here they are..

Luke 10:25-28

And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? He said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou? And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself. And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live.

Loving God is the most important. If you Love God you will love others as well and obey all of the other commandments.

There are actually 22. The 10 are the well-known. The other 12 were taught in secret to the inner sanctum.

I wish that He would have added "judge not lest you be judged" as a commandment. It would be good for the modern church.

If it were a commandment, some Churches would say," But you are taking it out of context, what he really meant was."
