You didn't inherit a belief in a strong work ethic. It was fostered within you, likely by your parents or an influential relative or friend.

Just as most peoples' religious beliefs are instilled by their parents.

I am trying to help the OP understand what his use of the word "inherited" in conjunction with beliefs looks like in use.

It would be insufficient if it had no value other than simply being inherited. But virtue has inherent value so it does not matter how you got it. Not everything that is inherited is without value.
