Richard why do you believe Christianity is not an offshoot of Judaism?
Because of the huge differences...It may have started out as a Jewish movement with Gentiles joining themselves to G-d's people as stated in Isaiah 56, however it took a turn and headed out in a different direction...If Christianity had remained a Jewish movement it would be identifiable even today...However, it was taken over by Paul and the mass of Gentiles and fine tuned into something else...If you study the Hebrew bible, the TaNaKh, all the way through, you will find that you can no longer look at the things as you did through the Christian Old Testament and will start to see things differently...If you look at Acts 15, you will see who the real Apostle to the Nations was and that the Jerusalem Assembly was the hub of all activity and you will also notice that Paul was just a little peon there and when they did send him out to the Assembly at Antioch, they sent two spiritually wise and mature individuals along with him, they did not send him out by himself...And then you see him get into a fight with Barnabas and the two split and went their separate ways...You can easily find letters attributed to Barnabas, and the style of the letters is very Jewish...Paul's letters seem very Greek in style...Paul took Christianity away from the Jews and gave it to the Gentiles...The Jerusalem Assembly existed for a long time, in the form of the Ebionites, I believe...In fact you see Paul starting to bash the 12...As if he is saying, "I've got the truth, they don't, listen to me."...
Perhaps I was wrong, My poiint was that he believes that Christianity started as a sect of Judaism and the theologians of mainstream Christianity claim that Christianity rose from the Hebrew religion of the "Old Testament." His contention is that the Christian perception of Tanakh is corrupted.
The 613 mitzvot were perception of things that were necessary to relate positively in society with man and God. As such, some of them were very specific to the time and culture. The basc idea of doing things that promote a proactive social order that is pleasing to God is still in effect, so, you could say that understood in context the mitzvot are still in effect, but the specifica and particular applications are not.
What do Catholics claim then?
How did Catholicism begin and do they have a different idea of G()D than the Abrahamic one?
Do Catholics think of themselves as Christians?

I'm definitely not a Jew and neither was the Christ.
Who was 'the Christ' then?

It's just sad how some Christian denominations have Hitler guilt and patronize a Jewish Poster because they are too ashamed to admit annoyance.
What would you have them do, in relation to Jewish Posters?
